Top Notch producer question
  • I used a herd helper and created this guy. He has a pt of 0.6 but he's a top notch producer? Can someone explain this to me?

  • He will be a great breeding horse for a foundation. He will probably not be a very good showing horse--he will level off early (has probably already leveled off now) so you won't be able to train him to move his show score up and move him up the show levels to where he would be able to accumulate a lot of show points.

PT relates to showing ability only. It tells you nothing about the breeding ability of any horse.

The one caveat to the paragraph above is this: a horse with a really high PT that passes SAT (showing aptitude test) may be a better breeder than a horse with a really low PT that passes SAT. This is because failing SAT means the show ability is MUCH higher than the breeding ability, therefore SAT and PT can give you a very slight insight into your horse's possible breeding ability. Very slight. This is the reason some players (like me) snip upper generation foals with low PTs--they may not be as good of a breeder as their pasture mates with PTs a full point higher...this is a gamble and only makes sense if you are putting a lot of foals on the ground!
  • A Perfect Foundation is good at both showing and breeding. They have a PT score of 9.9 and 100% breeding ability. (Horses of later generations that are better than their parents at breeding have a >100% breeding ability.) Perfect Foundations are also perfectly consistent, adding 3 points to their show scores with each training and scoring exactly the same both times they show in a week.

This stallion, since he is a top notch producer, has a 100% breeding ability, like Perfect Foundations. However, with a PT score that low, he will not be much help to you in building up your showing bonus. He would paper C, the best foundations can paper in this version of the game. If you like his color, then keep him in your Primary Barn to use for breeding.

Since he is already leveled off, he will gain only tiny fractions of a show point with each training. You can try showing him, but I expect that he will not move out of Level 1 Local for a great many months. This means that he will be in two horse classes, have a 50/50 chance of placing first and gaining 1/2 a point. (.5) Luck will play a tremendous role in how he places in the class, and since his show score is appears to be only 2, many other horses starting out at the same level will have the possibility of placing above him.

De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
