Heaves in Sky
-
Is there anything that I can do for my 14 year old paint gelding? He seems to be breathing a little harder than usual. He is coughing and farting a lot. What I have read about heaves is those are 2 symptoms to heaves. This has just become noticeable really today. I read soaking his hay will help some is there anything else that I can do?
-
Turn him out as much as possible to get fresh air , also soaking his bedding may help :) also avoid indoor areanas / dust areas as it will irritate, my friends horse had it and that seemed to help :)

You should speak to a vet.

My vet is out till Monday. He is the one I have dealt with since I got Sky at 18 months. He went to some vet convention this weekend. I plan on talking to him and taking sky to him Monday.

Sky is my baby. It scares me because I don't know how to help him. He is outside 24 7 with a run in shed accessible. He hasn't been rode or worked in two weeks. Would walking him help?

We have a paint thats has allergies, causes coughing and wheezing when she's around whatever plant it is she's allergic to. Had to move her from a trainer because she couldn't be worked hard there. That said, talk to a vet.

I will be thankful when he gets back. Sky don't get worked hard at all. I ride him once in a blue moon. I am slightly scared of falling off of him. I have gotten to be a cautious rider and all I do when I ride is walk for 10 minutes.

Definitely needs to see the vet asap.

He seems better right now since it is cooling off some tonight. Thanks guys he will see the vet Monday.
