Hi guys!
Stupid question in sure! But what are considered Rare or hard to get colours in this game?
Personally I am having trouble breeding a nice dark buckskin lol! Boring I know! But it got me wondering what colours and patterns are sort after? -
Brindle is the most rare since it is mainly gotten through rank special herd helpers as it is very difficult to breed for, mainly just randomly shows up in a breeding season if lucky enough to get one.
For a dark buckskin look for sty carriers along with the cream, black, and agouti -
No such thing as a boring color! If there is one thing I have learned here it's that some of the best horses look the blandest. Seriously, my favorite color is chestnut with sooty and pangere
Also if you need some horses with sooty to help with you dark buckskin I probably have some. I have a ton of sooty, lots of cream and a few dark buckskin. Most of my bucking are dark actually :D----

There are colors you can only get if you bought in with real cash when they were done as a limited release, like Ice 13 is now. You can't buy into the color later--you're only allowed to own it if you spent cash in the beginning.
There are colors that could be bought with cash in the past that you may be able to buy into if you can find someone who is breeding that color, but most of those patterns are being more and more limited to barns that already have it and no more new owners.
There are patterns and genes that you can buy for GMTs (Gene Modification Tokens) in the GMT lab (under the advanced tab on the left). These are freely available if you can afford the tokens, either with real or game cash. There are restrictions to which horses you can modify based on age and offspring and whether they are created or bred horses. Most of those you can buy into if you look around for a breeder or just keep a solid eye on the forum or auctions or sales pages.
And then there are desirable genes that you can buy in the lab but are also randomly available naturally in the game if you learn how to identify them.
However, while certain genes, colors and patterns are valuable, mostly in this game it is the quality of the horse that determines its base value and those genes and patterns are the cherry on top. Horses of poor quality with every single "cool" gene in the game won't be desired by experienced players. -
It's also important to remember that selling horses for profit isn't the best way to get ahead in this game. We are all breeding and creating horses all the time, so unless you turn up with something marvelous or highly desirable at the moment, you may find it hard to get much money for it. As Cheers said, it's the value of a horse for breeding or showing rather than its flashy color that will attract experienced players in the game. In fact, Ammit is working very hard at the moment to come up with ways to make it hard for people to breed fancy looking horses and then sell for lots of money.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
