Top producing mare?
-
Ok so I was in the Appaloosa breeders club and saw one of my mares Merry Melody 2 was #3 in the top producing mares category. And I looke in the bay and brown breeders club she was #1 as well as #1 in the white 1 category. How did she become number one?Life is Special live it to your fullest

As the breeding season progresses, the top producing stallion and top producing mare categories will become populated with the stallions and mares that have the best foal records. This will continue to change as the season goes on. By the time breeding season ends, the lists will look very different. For stallions, the average foal PT of their living offspring plays a part in the rankings but, at least before the institution of the new breeders clubs, there were other, unknown factors involved. For mares, I believe that the rankings are based on the PT's of their foals.
But for now, Merry Melody has the best foals (or 3rd best foals) produced by mares entered in those clubs. However, she probably won't stay that high, as other, higher generation mares are bred. If she's still among the top 10 mares at the end of breeding season (Oct 28), when the awards go out, she will receive a ribbon or trophy on her records page, always providing there are 25 mares on the list. If there are fewer than 25 horses in any category, no trophies or ribbons are awarded.
She probably has the best bet for staying high on the list in the White 1 club, since I believe that there aren't as many horses entered there. My white ones always do quite well in the points categories.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
