An interesting post from the H&J Facebook page
-
If you haven't already joined the Hunt & Jump Facebook discussion group, you should (https://www.facebook.com/groups/huntandjump/). Yes, you sometimes have to wade through a bunch of herd helper posts, but there is a lot of good information over there: Ammit announces upcoming changes, current bugs or problems, etc. and there is a list of 'Who is Who" with the real names of the people who have the stables you see everyday.
Do you know what Weekend Wishes is all about? It's where YOU get to post YOUR ideas for changes to the game! It's on the H&J Official page (https://www.facebook.com/huntandjump/?fref=nf)
Do remember that the FB page is for both servers (HJ1 and HJ2). Hj1 has some features that HJ2 doesn't, and vice versa. It also has a LOT more players.
Anyway, someone made a post about % of breeding horses vs % of show horses in their barns, and what it takes to make a profit. I thought it was interesting enough to share. As soon as they post the charts and graphs mentioned in the post I will copy them over here. Thanks to Sara for her permission!

There was a post talking about numbers of snipped horses, percentage of intact horses and what your show bonus was each week, someone was doing up some awesome graphs and the trends were really cool. When I started out looking at my stock I think i had in the vicinity of 75% intact horses (25% show ponies), was surviving on infusions at least twice a week and wasn't really focused on showing (I think my bonus was in the vicinity of 100k per week).
Now after a hard 6 months of culling and assessing, I have 8116 show ponies, only 12.8% intact horses and a showing bonus of 305k per day (2.1 mil per week). I don't buy anything but the occasional bulk order of GMTs or new genes with RL money, everything else comes out of my showing bonus. I'm not done culling yet, got about another 200 mares to sort and about 400 more foals to come but I'm hoping to settle at about 9-10% intact horses for now. While this doesn't help Ellie survive (sorry Ellie!), by making my barns self sufficient it is meaning I am spending more game money, I'm able to buy more things with RL money despite being on a very limited budget and the quality of my mares is starting to become really consistent.
My point being, to all the newbies starting, it is possible to grow your barns without spending millions in RL money (again sorry Ellie! but its better we spend a little and still play then be bankrupt right?) and when everyone says focus on show ponies they aren't kidding. It takes time but it's so worth it. -
I have just recently decided to start the whole build up my show stock game. Before now I was running a barn with 100% breeding horses. By reducing my breeding costs, producing a large number of horses to be sold directly for profit, and having a string of breeding mares that showed I was able to maintain a comfortable profitability (making more than I spent) with a herd of 1500-2000 horses. May bank account hovered in the 5-6 million HB range.
I am finding that, in order to be profitable with show horses I have to have a much, much larger herd. Fortunately I am trying a breeding experiment that will provide me with a large number of culls who can show, but I cringe at the idea of needing 6000-7000 horses to do what I used to do with 1500-2000. It is much less time intensive to let a bunch of showers do the work for me, which is ultimately why I went this route.
Still, there are plenty of ways to play the game and be profitable. You can have a 100% intact horse barn and make a lot of money, you just have to be willing to breed a lot of horses that you never even consider keeping. I cycled their mothers through a single 100 horse pasture, then they all went back into the show barn. The studs were ones I was no longer using, and they were often unevenly bred, to discourage others from buying them in the auction. I didn't test the foals, I did nothing with them that cost more money. They just went straight into the auction.
Your 8000 show horses make you 8.4 million a month. 8000 breed for profit horses would make close to 16 million a month, on top of any show profits. -
I am not the wealthiest of players, but when I need to get things done I can get the money to do it. Right now I hover at a 2 intact to 1 altered horse ratio, but most of my show ponies are so young that they are negligible, and I am getting closer to 1.5-1, as I am culling so I don't end up with a whole bunch of horses.

How are you all figuring that out?

hahaha, wow, here I am over here thinking "look at this, $900 a day showing bonus, this is the best I've ever done" ^:)^ID# 2353
