Checking DP?

If you have a horse that you suspect might have DP and is hom Ssty, what would be good breeding combinations to test that?
I was thinking breed them to a horse that has no Ssty and doesn't have (or doesn't appear to have) DP at all and see how dark the offspring is compared to a normal het Ssty horse of whatever color? Would that be smart? Is there a better way to go about it? -
Personally, I breed to a hom sooty chestnut. If they drop a liver chestnut then you know one of the parents is atleast het DP.
This technic works best if the horse in question is a stallion as you can use several sooty mares and up the chances of dropping a liver sooner.
Your way will work however.
Het DP on non DP horses will give less chance of a confirmed DP foal
If you link the horse you think is DP I can help confirm.----

This is the horse, by the way, if anybody has a good eye for DP and wants to save me the trouble lol! Hom Sooty Brown. -
Pp also, which I was wondering if that would have caused the lighter brown on the face and belly
-
I need a link to her in order to be of more help.
She looks like she may just be a sooty brown but I'll have to see if she is foundation or lined as well as her whole genotype. I will also compare her to my known DP horses
This is my het DP hom sooty mare, they're pretty simular but she is a "light" DP

I think the mare on the bottom is DP
-
She looks as dark as my freaky friday mare so I'd say she's got DPProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
Prices are almost always negotiable. -
Freaky Fridays are not brown so not relevant here. You have to compare them browns to browns.

Click the sty gene and look at the example pictures for comparison.

To answer your other question, yes, it is Pangare (Pp) that causes a lighter shade in the areas where her light brown shows.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Yea I'm having a really hard time with deciding whether she's DP or not. She has the same brown "pattern" as my above mare but yours is still a little lighter than mine. You'll just have to decide for yourself and test breed you've got her on auction though so I doubt you want to mess with her anymore----
