Buying and Selling
  • So, I noticed someone bought a horse off me and then advertised it straight away at nearly double the price... I'm kind of annoyed but what are your opinions on buying and reselling?
  • Don't sell less than 2500 has and always sell at high enough price to recoup costs. TNP, PF and RS are sold at a higher price. 3-4k has for the first two and RS you have to look at what others have sold it for, But usually between 10-50k

  • First I want to say - The advice above is good advice! Definitely use that as a guide when selling nothing under 2500 and use the horse search to determine price for Rank Specials and certain genes. You can see how much any horse was sold for (if its been sold) by going to the records tab on the horse's page.

Second- There are a couple people who do that on here unfortunately.. but like I said the comment above is good advice. It drives me nuts when I see people flip horses like that. Especially because its unfair to the next person who buys that horse because they got charged way more for a horse that just sold for way less. However if you sell a horse and someone buys it its out of your hands. You have no say since they purchased it. Most of the time this doesnt happen. But there are always a couple bad apples in the bunch.
  • I second all the above advice and I will add that anyone can go look at a horses sales records, including price, on the records tab. I have been known to buy horses that are up for sale for under 2000 then put them in the auction for the guaranteed 2500. That said, I also do everything I can to educate the people who put those horses up for sale at that price. I've had folks tell me that they know they could get more from the auction, but don't care. I know I am not ripping people off, so I don't feel too bad about it. I HAVE felt guilty the couple of times I've gotten a great horse for a too cheap price, and in those cases I usually send money to make up the difference.

  • I don't think it's a big deal. Sometimes I'll buy a horse for myself, then if I see that someone is searching for a specific horse I may end up selling it to them for maybe 1k more than what I bought it for. The horse is worth what they're willing to pay and you're helping them out by selling them a horse they need. When I've been in search of a specific type of horse I'm willing to pay more too. Sometimes I sell horses cheap, and they get bought and resold but it still benefits me bc if I'm selling them that cheap I probably am desperate for funds or stall space.

You wanted $x for the horse. The horse sold for the price you wanted out of it. So why are you complaining? If you wanted to keep the horse you would not have put it up for sale right?

On a side note, think about real life. Tons of people import and buy horses for 20k-100k and will turn around and sell them for 100k-500k. That's the horse world. That's business. That's how people make a living out of doing what they love.
  • It can be a big deal if a pattern is noticed. If one player is making a habit of taking advantage of newer players' lack of knowledge to make a profit for themselves, then it is a problem. Taking advantage of someone elses weakness is not good business. And immediately placing the horse back up for sale at an increased price is almost a slap in the face. Of course it happens, but that doesn't make it right, nor does it promote a healthy community.

  • I feel like most people on here wouldn't take advantage of new players. I have sold quite a few horses for them to be flipped within a day or two, but I feel like that's part of the game. I'm not aruguing against you by any means, if someone is doing it to take advantage of someone that is wrong but, also I have bought a horse before, has a it for a few days or a week and then someone will offer me more than what I paid for so maybe I'll sell it to them, I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
