Heterozygous or Homozygous DP?
  • Here is the girl I'm stuck on, I've never dealt with cremello before so I'm not sure if she is het or hom DP, both parents carry it.

  • So I'm pretty sure that this mare of mine is het dp. I can't quite see properly on your horse, but I think she's a tad lighter?

  • ObsidianKitsune, your mare is darker because they are perlino and brown based at that, my filly is cremello so would be a bit lighter

  • Ah, true. Well, the only way I figured out my mare was dp was I had her give birth to two foals and at least one of them was certainly het dp, and couldn't get it from dad.

Comparing them, I think you foal is heterozygous, although it is hard to tell.

  • That's something else I should have added she has a copy of S+ as well as normal sooty, and from what I've seen S+ doesn't make them quite as dark as normal sooty either way, I can wait for her to be old enough to breed.
