I really don't understand..
  • I have 9 mares in pasture with 30+ days in pasture and I got 9 foals out of that 2 were snipped threw BA 3 were snipped threw SBA and 4 made it threw SBA at only B and red papers at 3 gen I thought the pastures were supposed to make the foals better especially with their dams having 30 days in pasture. These results are no better then tube babies. The sire was even superior to sire I'm really confused and rather upset I paid a lot on pastures and my mares not earning points towards my show bonus to get those 30 days in pasture.
  • If you link the sire, we can have a look. But I would say that your stock may not be as good as you think they are. I would also say a test sample of 9 isn't really enough to come to any conclusions...l have hundreds of mares in pasture and evaluate them over many seasons to figure out who are my best Breeders.
  • It's still a roll of the dice. I didn't have many 3gs paper better than red/b this season either and I've been ridiculously strict as far as culling.
  • And it's more that the pastures reduce a chance of a flop (or even mediocre) foal then that the foals are actually better. Although it's still not quarentees. And 9 isn't necessarily a large test base anyways. I would try more like 30+ foals over 2 seasons before being sure.

You could have been lucky with AI.
Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.
  • I just finished breeding my 2g pasture. 15 foals. 8 passed SBA. 2 A papered Colts and 2 Blue fillies. So even with strict culling guidelines you don't get a huge number of intact foals.
  • You still did way better then me :(
  • I would also say that 9 mares is a really small group. There is always the chance with a group that small that you just get unlucky even with the pasture bonus.

That being said, even though your stallion was superior to his sire, his sire is only a C paper. So it's possible your stallion is a low B papered boy. Which would make it harder for him to produce A and Blue babies. Not impossible I think, but less common. Have you comparison tested him to other B papered stallions in your barn? I rank my B studs as high, mid and low Bs by comparison testing them against each other.

It could be the same case with your mares, they could be low reds instead of high reds. Hard to tell without seeing how they produce over several seasons.

  • No matter how I breed I still have the worst luck sigh* oh well :( we will see how my other 2g pasture does with 50 mares
  • He is a medium B I have tested him to several studs he tested AGA a few B studs and another B stud he tested worse then so I'd say he is a medium B. But if he was a high B he wouldn't match with my other mares witch are also medium red mares. I have a B stud that is superior to Mystic Moonlight but he is only 2
  • Sometimes even the best of us will go a whole season with bad luck. Just makes the good ones that come through all the more exciting. Keep your spirits up. :)

  • Awe thanks Salvistar ill try, it seems like I have a bad season every year but ill keep trying. It's just really really hard to breed for color and quality because the pretty ones either don't make it or are poor quality it's such a bummer. I really struggle with that. Lol :)
  • Sorry, I mistyped. 2 A papered colts, 1 blue filly. I spayed the filly due to inconsistency. Both colts tested superior to their sires and AGA each other. So out of 15 foals I got 2.
  • You got 3 actually 4 but 1 sniped A/Blue out of 15 I got 0 A/ blue out of 9 I'd say you have me beat for sure lol
  • No, I said I mistyped. I only got 1 blue filly. 2 A colts. Filly was snipped because of inconsistency. Ended up with 2 colts out of 15 horses bred.

Take a look at your mares. What are their AFPTs? If they're 2g I would say a minimum of 10.5 for AFPT.
  • Oohh got cha lol and my mares have not been bred very much and some only once or not at all
  • There is never ever in the game going to be a time when you will get 100% of foals through SBA. Getting over 50% is amazing results. As high as you can expect. If you got over 50% intact from test tube foals that is insanely good results.

If you want 100% intact foals you have to not use breeding advice. ;)

  • Yea your right Ammit it's just hard to see such beauties being snipped lol ill figure this game out one day Lmao!:)
