It's a bug that basics can access embryos and use eggs. Ammit has specifically said that basic members should not get used to this and that she will correct this at some point in the future.

However, right now you can buy and use eggs, you just can't pull them from your own mares.

Whether that's still the same after monthly rollover.....

However, if you did buy eggs and the change was made, my understanding is that you couldn't access the eggs to use or sell them but they would still be in your freezer if you ever upgraded to premium.

It states on the upgrade page that basic upgrades can use eggs and embryos though?

I thought it ment you were able to use them but actually you are only able to transfer them :)

Then maybe she's decided not to fix it. Since I have the premium I may have missed an announcement about the basic access to the breeding lab.

There is a way to create embryos that doesn't use eggs, and that may be something that works for a Basic Upgrade.

Welcome to the ABSL's embryo transfer laboratory. This facility impregnates a mare using a straw. The resulting fertilized embryo is then harvested and placed in cold storage for implantation in for the future. This process costs 8,000 hb's. Additional fees will be charged during implantation and foaling.

I've never done this, whatever my upgrade, so I'm not sure what effect that has on the mare's breedability after 5 days. Ammit would probably know. I will experiment and see what happens.

This procedure should be open to Basic Upgrades. The exact term used in the upgrade description is "embryo transfer." The welcome to the create embryo page speaks definitely of the "embryo transfer laboratory."

Using an egg and sperm to create the embryo is called "embryo creation." It is probably the ability to use this that Ammit meant when she talked about a bug and its eventual correction.

Okay so it's a no to buying eggs, but you can sell embryos, so I presume you can buy embryos then with a basic upgrade?

I have a basic upgrade. I was able to buy eggs earlier this year, combine them with a straw, then implant the embryos.

Created the embryo using the second option on the embryo creation page.
"Welcome to the ABSL's embryo creation laboratory. This facility takes a previously collected egg and combines it with a straw to create a test tube embryo. This embryo can then be implanted into a surrogate mare during breeding season. It costs 2000hbs to create a test tube embryo. Additional fees will be charged during implantation and foaling."
