Somatic Tattoos
-
Hi,
I was reading about the somatic gene and as far as I understand, it means that horse will not pass it's color to its foal. Is this correct?
If so, when a horse has a Somatic Tattoo, and then a color written underneath, does it mean it won't pass that color?
Thanks! -
Think of tattoos like brands, only in pretty colors! The color is infused into the skin in just the small section treated, and just on the surface level. So, no, it will not be passed on. Tattoos can be placed at different locations on the horses picture, as well as on the horse.

Umm I think what i mean is, another example:
I have a horse that says on its page.
Somatic Tattoo
[star] Exceptional Producing White 2
What is this? -
OH! That tells you that it was a herd helper, and which one it was. So, in that case, YES, the colors are passed along when the horse is bred.

Here's a list that explains Herd Helpers a tiny bit: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/45446/abbreviations-chart-updated-1-6-18#Item_1
