Consistency? Somatic Tattoos? Ranks?
-
Hi Guys - brand new player, I've read everything in the Rules and FAQ but I'm still a bit confused.
What is the "consistency" rating underneath Perfomance Test Grade? I've got a few consistent and a few inconsistent...
What are the colors/stars under "somatic tattoos"? Is that related to the quality level for breeding?
What does "Rank 3" etc. mean for HH horses?
Thanks! -
For herd helpers, the rank indicated how rare that combination of colours is! For example, something like black would be a rank one, but a true breeding grullo tobiano may be a rank 4. They do not indicate breeding or showing ability unless stated in the name (eg perfect foundation, great show horse, etc). The higher the rank, the lower the amount of horses you can make (if you get a share of a rank 1, you get 5 horses, but for a rank 4 you get 2). I'm a bit rusty on this bit since I rarely look at rank, but the HH's go up to 5, with number 5's being Rank Specials, who DO have their breeding/showing ability usually stated. This is the list of all of the current RS:

How consistent a horse is affects how much their show score will vary. If a horse is perfectly consistent, it won't. I think it's if it varies by a range of 2-3, the horse is considered inconsistent. If a horse is very inconsistent, they can be altered by breeding advice. Some people use consistency to cull their herd, others don't mind. An inconsistent horse can still be a good show horse too.

I think Rank Specials are level 6, not 5, Obsidian.
Level 5 is where Exceptional Producers, Exceptionally Perfects, Exceptional Showers, and some rarer gene combinations are found.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

About Consistency
This has to do with training and showing. Every time a horse is created it will have a randomly generated base show score, usually between 0 and 9. Each time it is trained, it will add a certain number of points to its base show score. Consistency is a mark of how much its score in a given show varies from that base.
Horses that test consistent may have the same score both times they show in a given week. Their scores may also be plus/minus 1 or 2, meaning that they may have a score that ranges above and below that base by 1 or 2 points.
In effect, a horse that is +/- 1 has the possibility of scores that range over 3 points. If the base score is 24, it may score 23, 24, or 25. If it is +/-2, the scores may range from 22, 23, 24, 25, 26.
Inconsistent horses scores have the potential to range even more widely, making it hard to predict what they will score in a given class.
The variation is random every show.
Consistency is somewhat inheritable. This means that consistent parents are more likely to have consistent offspring, but they can have inconsistent ones occasionally. Inconsistent horses are more likely to have inconsistent offspring, but may have consistent one occasionally.
Inconsistency lowers the PT score.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
