Whiskey Oaks Breeding Update For Prodigious, Inferno, and Shrapnel Lines
-
I like to give a public update as to what I'm doing and how it's going for multiple reasons. One so new players can see what and why I do things and possibly take things away that can help them, and two, so that players can see what I have and they might see something they need for their own breeding programs.
I have a lot of breeding lines currently going on. Before I go any further I want to point out I am a premium account and I test everyone. Also I sell all but around 30 altered foals each season. This allows me to add at least one show barn and fill it with new show foals every season and to fill in empty stalls in any of my other show barns to make sure my daily show bonus is constantly growing. This year I ended up with over 600 foals and I'm adding new lines and moving some second generations into pasture next year. My top three and oldest lines are my Prodigious Line (Flaxen Liver), My Shrapnel Line (Snowflake) and my Inferno Lines (Wild Bay GP). In those three lines I'm currently in Gen3 breeding. I'm breeding a few Gen4 individually.
Prodigious
Most of the mares are Homo DP with only a few exceptions
All my stallions are Homo DP
I only have 15 mares currently but I'm thinking about culling for consistency and for AFPT. This would mean culling all mares who are inconsistent and any mares with a AFPT lower than 11. Currently I fully test everyone. All foals have to pass SBA and paper the same or higher than the parent of the same sex. Stallions must test superior to the stud.
Still working on getting homo flaxen horses. Most of my stallions and a few mares are still only het flaxen.
Also breeding for dapples which is coming along nicely. Most of the time if a reroll a foal who doesn't have dapples I can get them after reroll.

This line was actually started to remember a old friend I had as a kid. I'm breeding for wild bay with no white on the feet, a bright red coat and GP just to add some fun to it. Most of the breeders at this point are homo GP. I have a few different colors that pop up from time to time like Buckskin, Chestnut and Silver Bay. I'm breeding gen4 individual and got my first star foal this year in gen5. I only currently have 10 mares in this pasture so all I'm doing is testing them. As long as they pass SBA and paper the same color as their mare or higher and stallions test superior to sir I keep them . Hopefully as the herd grows I will be able to cull for consistency and for AFPT.

I almost lost this line but thanks to the generosity of other players I was able to bring it back. This is a snowflake line. A couple seasons ago I decided to try an add Macchiato to it. About half of my mares are het snowflake but all my stallions are homo. At this point any foal who is not homo snowflake gets altered and put in the show string. I currently have 29 mares in this pasture. I haven't been breeding these mares long so I'm still waiting for three foals before I decided if I should start culling for consistency and for AFPT. My one Macchiato/Snowflake boy will be able to breed next year so I might start breeding him to individual mares as soon as they come of age. Currently everyone gets tested and as long as everyone papers the same as their parent of the same sex and passes SBA and stallions test superior to sir then they get to stay. One of my current mares is currently near the bottom of the list for top producing mares in the Snowflake breeders club and the stallion I used this year was on the list for awhile too so I know I'm getting close. I'm looking forward to seeing my first star and gold foals from this line soon.

I hope this was helpful. I have many more lines to do work ups on. If you have any questions about these lines or any other line I'm working on don't be afraid to ask.

Beautiful Horses, I am just working on getting Homo DP for now, with out the GMT. I know fools folly but I am working on it. I just love the dark brown/liver horses, the flaxen mane will come later. :D

Yeah, Going Phenomenal Was the Best Pasture foal that season so I used 1 GMT to get her homo DP so she could move on into my breeding program. If she hadn't been the Best Pasture Foal I would have cut her from the program because she wasn't homo DP. When I start a line I normally find either a RS or a PF stallion that I can GMT and make him either het or homo of the gene I want. Money plays a big part in whether I choose to make him homo or het. I then match him up to mares that I think will give me the best odds in getting the color I want. In Gen two foals I'm looking for het or homo only. Any foal who dones have the gene gets cut. By gen 3 I'm looking at only homo horses to move on unless something about them is important. Like say it's the only blue mare I have for that generation or in some lines I'm breeding for a specific pattern.

I love your methods! You do just a phenomenal job. The prodigious horses I got from you are some of my favorites. I am positively drooling over your Shrapnel line. I have a few miscellaneous macchiato horses but unsure what direction I want to goBreeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.Thanked by 1fj1482

If you ever have any hom snowflake colts you just happen to not be using for sale, let me know please! I love the snowflake appys

Oh, wow, love seeing how others are doing. Your horses are gorgeous!

I have always admired your horses. They are stunning. I wish I was patient enough to have organized lines - my horses are all mixed together. Maybe I should start another account with more organization :)) Or maybe not, I like switching things up. Currently I'm also focusing on liver and chocolate, macchiato, wild bay/buckskin, and silver blue roan. Every day I find more colors I like :)ID: 16853

I'm glad it looks organized because it doesn't feel like it to me. I currently have 20 different lines. That doesn't include the ones where I'm currently breeding multi generations or the smaller lines that are not big enough for their own pasture yet like my Axiom. Sometimes I think about cutting back but then I look at my lines and try to decided and I just can't bring myself to do it.
