Colour/gene abbreviations?
-
Hey guys!
I've noticed that a lot of people use (I think) abbreviations for colour or genes. Is there a list somewhere of what these colours are? For example, DP, TBB, etc?
Thanks so much for your help! -
I don't think that there is an official list anywhere. Here are some of the more common ones.
DP -- Dense Pheomelanin -- a nontestable gene that intensifies red pigment and makes liver chestnuts
KP -- Kit Promoter -- a nontestable gene -- must be homozygous and in the presence of two Kit mutations to show -- produces random cloudy white patches
GP -- Gulastra Plume -- a nontestable gene -- produces white starting at the bottom of the tail in bay based horses -- must be homozygous to show full effect, slightly lightens the tail of buckskin horses and puts some lighter flecks in the mane
Most of the rest, with more than two letters, are abbreviations of the names of Rank Special Herd Helpers, or sometimes just relatively uncommon but desirable ones.
TBB would be True Breeding Black, for instance.

In the light of the most recent addition of the True Breeding Brown Appaloosas, I would think that TBB would be True Breeding Brown, but has TBB been around longer than a few weeks?

I'm not sure. I know Ammit introduced True Breeding Blacks not long ago. I think there was a True Breeding Brown back in the days when Brown was created by making bays with homozygous sooty, but the name of that Herd Helper has been changed to True Breeding Dark Bay, though the tattoo may still have the original name.De gustibus non disputandum. Well, I guess we really need this post, then. We're having some necessary clarification. :DThanked by 1mabelhavana

Thanks, guys!
Sandy, that was really helpful. Answered everything I wanted to know. Thank you! -
No such thing as True Breeding Black. Must be people who mean True Breeding Brown Appaloosa but are dropping the A off the end.

Sorry, Ammit. My memory is going. I thought I'd seen one recently, but obviously not. Sigh.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Ahem! I would like to post proof that there is a True Breeding Black DHH, at least there is in HaJ1. Here is a screen shot of one posted today.
My memory is feeling a tad justified.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
