Auction Question
  • So, I think I know the answer but I'm a bit confused/annoyed as to why that would be the case. I made several bids on the recent auction and (according to the page) the bids went through but I did not win the horse and, upon inspecting said horse to see who did win, it sold for an amount *less* than what I bid. Now my primary barn only had a couple slots open, my secondary barn was completely empty. I assumed that if I won more horses than my primary barn could hold they would simply roll over into the secondary barn. Evidently, this is not the case I only won enough horses as to fill my primary barn (plus 1) despite having bid (and should have won) on others. Unless I missed this being posted somewhere (I checked the FAQ and main auction page) I see nowhere that says your primary barn needs to have enough room for all the auction winning horses. It would be nice to have that posted somewhere because, in my mind, having room in the other barn should have been enough without my having to shuffle horses around/out of my main barn. Just a little disappointed is all. If this isn't the case then I don't know why the confirmation page would say my bid went through but then not actually win the horse. Unfortunately, of course, I did not get screen grabs of the confirmation page that said my bid was placed so I can't really give 'proof' of this.

Edit: Bids were placed from my contest account (not this one) just happened to be logged into Ren for forum posting. :P

  • If you bought more horses than your primary could hold it would "overflow".
  • Hmm then I'm really bummed I didn't grab a screenshot because there were a couple that my bid was higher than the 'sold for' on their page.

  • There are plenty of people who bid right up until the end of the auction. It really sounds to me like you just got beat by the clock, and the confirmation page was just a teensy bit too slow? I'm not the expert, though. Ammit would have to say for sure.

Just as a side note: ALL newly created, bred or purchased horses go into your Primary barn first. Like Jumping Bean said, you can over fill your barns. You won't be able to show any horses until you rearrange, but even if you bid more cash than what you had, it would still send you the horse and move you into a negative balance.

  • @ConfluenceFarms - Well I was thinking the same thing that I just got beat by the clock however when I looked at the horse it said it sold for under what I had bid, 3800hbs vs the 4000 that the confirmation page had said was an accepted bid. That's where I'm getting a little confused and thinking that due to my barn being filled it didn't actually count the bid. Another possible reason could be that although the page popped as if the bid was accepted it did not actually go through due to lag or something else? Hmm....I didn't go into negative (not even close) so that doesn't seem an explanation either.

  • I'm not sure about buying auction horses. I know that if you try to breed or create more horses than you have empty stalls in your primary barn, the game will not let you do it. There's a message something like "Sorry, SandyCreekAcres, you do not have enough room in your primary barn for this horse."

So far as I know, the only time you can get an overflow in the primary barn is when you're emptying foals out of pastures. Then, as long as there are more horses than stalls, the primary barn cannot be shown.

The primary barn is the Default destination for new horses--bought, created, bred. You have to move horses out of that barn into another in order to add new horses if there aren't enough stalls.

There is no "automatic switch to a secondary barn" in the programming. That would be extremely difficult to program. Many of us who have been playing a long time have scores of barns, or even more than 100 of them for the extremely large stables. I'm not sure the server would be able to search all the barns looking for empty stalls. That would be a massive amount of memory devoted to just one player.

If you didn't have stalls enough for an auctioned horse you'd made the highest bid on, the price you bid wasn't taken out of your bank account.

You could make a polite request that the information that new horses will be sent only to the Primary Barn be included somewhere in the FAQ. You're right. New players would not automatically know about it. After playing a while, most of us have probably tried to insert too many horses and have run up against the message, but you probably haven't been playing long enough for that to have happened before.

  • @SandycreekFarm - This makes complete sense now that you've explained it. I really hadn't taken into account the sheer number of barns established players have.

You are right in assuming that I have not been playing long enough for this to be an issue for me although (after today) it was what I assumed must have happened. :) I think I will make a request for it to be added somewhere as (for my little account) my main barn in the biggest and therefore where I just tend to keep all my horses and had I know I would have moved horses over to the secondary barn to make room. Ah well, live and learn. :3

  • Did you have enough money for all of the horses? Or did you overbid? I think I vaguely remember someone else complaining about this, and Ammit coming in to say that they did not hold enough money to pay for the horse.

    Prices are almost always negotiable.
  • Sounds like you may not have had enough money at the moment the sale was going through for those horses.

It does not care if your barn is full. That will not stop a purchase in the auction. It only skips you if you don't have the needed money.
  • @Ammit - Thanks for the response! I don't think money was the factor in this case since I had more than enough money for the horses I was bidding on (only picked to bid on a handful of them) and had done the math prior to the auction ending so I knew how much I could/should spend per horse. (Yes, yes I really am *that* person). lol

I have tried to bid on another horse after having bid on too many others and not had enough money and the game wouldn't let me bid and told me I didn't have enough funds, unlike this time around when all bids went through. Not to mention this time around I had a lot more funds to work with.

Ah well, it's good to know that it doesn't care if the barn is full, that makes me feel much better about things as that was my main concern/question.
