The new Exceptional craze..
-
So, when I first started I managed to get my hands on an exceptional producer early on and had someone offer me a good amount for it.. between 15-20k if I remember correctly.. and so I started to sell all of my Exceptionals, only keeping a few that I really wanted for the way I wanted my breeding to go, and used the funds to help me expand barns, but now that I'm hurting for funds I tried to snag a few yesterday and now I wonder if the market may be flooding with no hope of making any money off of them if they don't work for my program.. it looks like I can't even sell the few I have for 5k.. should I just auction them or should I post an ad? I'm broke again and not sure how to get rid of horses I can't use in my program, but don't want to lose money off the testing and everything because I need a foal barn for breeding this season.. whoops.. ha
This new rank special thing is AWESOME, I already got one brindle and was STOKED to be able to buy another fairly cheaply, but is it going to be a little much? Do I need to be worrying? :/
What do y'all think?

I'm a pretty new player so I definitely don't have a lot of experience with the economy in this game in general...
It does make me a bit nervous. But, I'm hoping that the excitement will die down with time and horse values will readjust accordingly. I'm keeping in mind that people generally breed for different traits so there should always be a level of interest in different types/colors of horses. On that note, I did get stuck with several exceptional tobi mares I created in hopes of selling... had to toss them in today's auction instead. It'll be interesting to see how the market adjusts but I'm remaining optimistic!Thanked by 1KAMRanch -
The markets flooding with them cos its a
A new thing.. once things settle down and people run out of money, barn space and start breeding they may get a little of their value back but i dont think they will ever go to huge prices.. .I have several priced at 3-4k and not selling much.
I think the average bays etc wont fetch much but if you get good colours that are more in demand (livers, hom appys etc) they will fetch decent prices.
But yea while selling wont make much money i just dont do testing and advertise. If they dont get bought thwy can go in auction and ill get my money back. This is for the ones who dont make it in my breeding program.
Just keep collecting those show ponies ;)Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.
Horses generally always available.
PM me for any enquiries.Thanked by 1KAMRanch -
I did the same thing with ExPerfects thinking I'd get a few that would help me get a new barn when I sold them. They're in the auction today after not selling yesterday and I'm crossing fingers that they bring a little extra. Hopefully this will work itself out in a little while. Barn space is what's hurting me right this minute. I've culled all that I want to cull from my herd but I still don't have enough room to even think about breeding this month.Thanked by 1KAMRanch

I agree with@Crystal93. It's only happening the way it is because it is new. Eventually it will wind down again and prices will normalize.Thanked by 1KAMRanch

Advertise the colors. Since they are all exceptional breeding ability, people are looking for specific colors or genes. Advertise if you have solid black, wild bay, brown, silver, liver. Rabicano, grullo, some champagnes are also frequently in "In Search Of" ads. And give more than just part of a day. Some people don't get on as often, so they may not see the ad until after you auction it. So if you rush into auction, you could miss out on a decent price from someone that's looking for what you have.#28036

Yes people will pay for non bay/chestnut ones. Just use them like better perfect foundations. Perhaps we should have an exceptional producer rescue for them :)Thanked by 1KAMRanch
-
It's like looking for livers from a dark chestnut HH - the good ones do come along and the rest you breed with that lovely foundation stallion (either that one hoping he passes his genes on or that brindle guy) you don't use for regular foundies and see if you like their babies. They are good quality after all :)
-
Plus, I bet people in the bootstrapping group would be interested in even the plainer colored ones. That's one step closer to gold for those starting with foundation. :D#28036
-
Also with the exceptionals I like to buy after people have made them - only really looking for black based ones. And Chilli only wants chestnut ones. So we are both trawling through the sales/auction for those that take our fancy, I suggest you always do gene testing on those horses - easier to find and you will get a better price. :)Thanked by 1KAMRanch

Yes Haltanny - DinaChill is doing just that :)
-
I'll have some chestnut based ExPro silver draft mares later, if anyone is interested. I'd gladly trade for ExPro mares with rabicano. ;)#28036

between 15-20k if I remember correctly.
Yeash. Way over priced. 5k is more in line with what they really should be worth. They are basically just second gens.

Maybe they were cooler colors. Lol I thought it was awesome then, now I'm sure I was just lucky.
I usually do all tests, so that's a great idea too :)
Maybe they'll aquire points and be worth something in a few seasons too.. :DBreeder of Quality Warmbloods and Show Horses

Maybe it was the Xmas special ones?
When Ammit gave the most kickass holiday special where everything automatically had ExPerf/ExPro/etc. *On top* of the fancy color herd helpers.
Aside from fancy colors they seem to go for $3-5k pretty normally.ID# 2353 -
So it's been a week since the update, and I've noticed an interesting trend. ExPro prices have seemed to stabilize at around 3-5k for the most part, which seems pretty reasonable to me. However, many Exeptional Showers I see for sale are fantastically overpriced. Some are 3-5k like the ExPros, but I've been seeing horses with 100-300 points go for 10-20k! I could understand that for the occasional 500-1000k pointer, however the math doesn't make sense for how a 100-300 point foal would make you 10-20k back inside of 6 rl months! I guess since they are the new and cool thing and people are willing to shell out the big bucks for them, I can't blame people for making a profit on them while they can, though. Any guesses where the prices will stabilize for ExShow?ID# 43830

I was willing to throw 50k on a 950 pt filly the other day, no problem. My math and logic is probably way off, but she was bringing in 100ish hbs a day. Not figuring in ANY point increases (which they theoretically should grab points once they start training and such):
100hbs x 30 days = 3000hbs a month
3000hbs x 17 years = 51000 hbs.
But of course I was terrible at math, and it may turn around and burn me, but I figured, shoot...why not? This critter is going to sit around and just make me all the cash back anyway, even if she never gains another point. LOL

I've noticed the need for xpros isnt as much now. Herd helpers go without having fill clicks. I snip and xpros with points i buy.
As for pointed horses in the last auction i won like 5 that nobody else bid on that had around 200-300 points.
The public sales board is very convenient for buying as you aren't in a bidding war.
I personally am happy to pay up to 5k for a horse with minimum 250points.Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.

Think you are spot on HTRanch. The price will drop once people realize there is no reason to spend so much.
