Culling

I know there aren't any real rules. GA isn't strict enough for me.
Should 2nd Gen colts papering below B, be gelded? I find that most of mine paper B anyway. Before I was able to paper, I purchased some beautiful horses now I find that they only papered C even though they weren't foundations. Should I geld them and keep them for the points? I certainly don't need as many stallions as I have. Should I just try to sell them? -
Personally I would probably geld and keep for show ponies. If you have plenty of B papered second gens I don't see a need to keep inferior studs around.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

Thanks, I just needed a second opinion to help me make a decision. They're pretty, it's hard! Lol.
-
I do not keep anything intact that isnt a high B for 2nd gens, and a mid A for 3rd gens. I never keep any intact that are not superior to sire. A C foundation are usually as good as a low B, so a C will never be superior to C sire.
But I keep everything that is altered/gelded. That's were the moolah comes from. I have exactly 1000 intact horses right now (only because I havent had time to breed, and spay out of quality this season). This includes youngstock, so a little under 600 of them are breedable this year. But I have 5330 altered horses, and a big enough bonus to keep me well supplied throughout every season.Thanked by 1ScarletCarson -
I have a terrible time sorting through my colts.
I figured out if I breed one pasture at a time, I get the email that tells me who is the best foal in the pasture. If that is a colt, that gives me a starting point. If he's better than his dad, I cull from there. if he isn't, I cull every colt in the pasture (and cull most of the fillies).
I start culling on PT--if they don't meet my standards to keep (since my stallions show all the time) I throw them in the auction. I cull on papering--geld any gen 2s that paper C. I cull anything that doesn't have the colors I want--either geld and keep for showing or throw them in the auction. and finally I will either spend an absolute fortune comparison testing or I just pick on instinct or I keep a handful to see how they look compared to the next year of colts.
I hope that helps you figure out your colts!Thanked by 1ScarletCarson -
Thanks guys, I did go and geld every single Gen2 that papered C.
Do you get e-mails about foals if you don't autobreed? I never get e-mails whether or not I breed in the pasture but I've never auto bred. That would be a nice idea to start from though.
Do you still keep geldings that have low PT scores? Seems like they would make less money.
Is there a way to compare to sire if you don't own the sire? -
I get emails every time I pasture breed. I pretty much never autobreed...that may be a premium upgrade feature tho...
I auction geldings with low PT scores. I don't make my money back but at least I get something out of them.
And no, you have to go by Paper score and if they paper the same, you have to hope.
Abbey Road picks a stallion in each generation to be her bench mark, and tests her stallions against them as well as their dads if she owns them. I haven't gotten that far yet but it's a good idea! -
It always says "check your email" when I pasture breed but... there isn't an email anywhere. Not in my real e-mail or the inbox on here.
-
It goes to your real email. Check if you have the right Address associated with your account.
-
Haha, weird. It took my real e-mail and magically added my player ID into it. No wonder I wasn't getting anything.
-
I tend to hang on to B colts to see how they are unless I get an A colt from the same sire. I am going to be going through my stables in this next week and will probably be gelding a lot of colts
-
Is it possible to get an A colt from two foundations?
-
It is possible scarlet

Thats a stallion i bred and he papered A. I sold hkm not too lon agoLife is Special live it to your fullest -
I tend to procrastinate, I have so many stallions I need to go through in the next week or so. I usually leave them all until they turn 3 years, to see which ones do better at showing, then I geld. But I am not as strict as some, if I like a color, I test breed first before gelding. I have had a couple of stallions that paper lower or the same as their sire, and they turn out really good profit and point show horses.
-
They would be better profit and point wise if they were gelded though, wouldn't they? I don't need a ton of stallions so, I'm liking the idea of being more strict about it. I just needed a little push to let go. Lol.
That's so awesome, Baya! -
It is possible to get an A from a foundation, but they almost always come from a perfect foundation (like Dark Sun Rising), which are super rare in the game.
-
Way cool. I've had a couple HH that were Perfect Foundations. I believe some of the RS say they are "exceptional," not sure if that applies.
-
I hear you, I have to shut my eyes, and click the geld button....lol.
But it is so hard for me. I would rather just let them stay as they are, and I have been making a profit... Yay... Finally...
I have been waiting for that with as many horses as I have showing. I do show everything I have though. No matter if they are intact or not. -
I also show everything I have, intact or not. I need a higher ratio of showers to breeders though still. Culling heavily helps with that.
Everyone culls with different parameters. It just depends on your goals.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

The Rank Specials that are "exceptional producers" or "exceptionally perfect" can only have that boost in HaJ1. Boosted horses are not a part of this game. The description is because the Rank Specials either went into HaJ 1 before this game was started or are created that way for use in HaJ 1. However, when they are in this game, they will only create perfect foundations because this game does not have boosting for any horse. All the rank specials are perfect foundations, I believe.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
