Pasture Breeding A Wash?
-
Evenly matched pastures. 118 breedable mares. All but 25 foals failed SBA. That was a complete waste of a breeding season. :(( Whereas almost all my nonpastured breedings have passed.
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.

Oh, and I was going to complain that TOO many of my pasture foals passed SBA! I had to get REALLY strict with culling to get down to my current 40 out of 275 total foals! I'm estimating, but I would say a good 70% of my foals passed! :o

@ConfluenceFarms I need your luck!
Most of the 25 that passed are ones that I will probably get rid of because they don't fit what I want at all and most of the ones who would have fit got snipped. I'm so upset for my first go at trying for the pasture bonuses was an abject failure :-??God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,

And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.

I do NOT consider it luck! I want all but 1 or 2 colts gelded and 5-10 mares spayed! SBA is supposed to make it EASIER on the bigger barns! :P
You'll get better with practice. My mares live full time in the pasture, and I've had several years to figure out which stallion produces best! If it were easy it would be BORING!Thanked by 1Dinascar -
I breed about 400-450 and get about 50 foals kept intact. Although I still have too many studs that I still have to trim down.
Show horses pay for my barns and breeding so I celebrate every one of them -
Oh I love my show herd and some of these babies will stay in my show barn for sure. I'm just disappointed because I was hoping for a few more better suited for my breeding herd.
Confluence since a huge chunk of mine are RS I'm extremely disappointed by how many failed but as you said I've got time to learn. Just means the next couple auctions are going to be flooded with show ponies from my barn.God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,

Well, remember, too, that unless it says Exceptionally Perfect, or Exceptional producer, even RS horses just perfect foundations.
