Funky Appy
  • What is going on with this horse? The white speckled spot on the nose and the patchy blanket and the white speckles on the leg seem out of the norm for appys. Sabino in the mix maybe?

  • She is neat looking, like the mottleing has crept into her snip.

  • I've seen a horse do something like that once before. He was born a very dark chestnut, almost liver, with one hand-sized patch of white on one hip. When he shed his foal coat, shadows and light began to show through, then when he shed as a yearling he turned very nearly white, looking very patchy as he shed the long winter hair because a horse's coat sheds in certain areas (face, flanks, etc) before others. By the time he was four, that once very dark colt looked just like a leopard.

  • But in general they are awesome colours, the breed I keep and breed don't have the spotty genes unfortunately but I did use to own a half appy mare that other the 4 years we owned her varnished quite bit and got spottier.
This was her the day she arrived.

Always Looking for FF's and Liver Pearl's
  • Looks like lots of pigment on the first mare. My guess is she is gray, knowing nothing about if that is possible from her pedigree. Would not surprise me though if she is getting high pigment density off that friesian side.
  • Look at their stallion :o he's beautiful! and his sire is friesian.

  • Did some more research and found this post by the Equine Tapestry on sabino interactions. It mostly talks about interactions with other Kit patterns, but I believe I have seen elsewhere that the laced edges can be seen with sabino and Lp as well.
