Uhh... How?

So, since both parents carry Tobiano, I figured he'd have it, too. I'm guessing he somehow missed both Tobianos, each one a parent had? At that rate, I would have assumed he'd have at least gotten one. Lol. But I do see he got each different W gene from his parents, so maybe he didn't get Tobiano because of the lack of space for that Gene, as it goes on Kit, and there's already two things there? I don't know. I'm confused. :-?? :-/ :-?
Heir of VaultLove,

Yep - got kitw2 from Dad and kitw20 from mum rather than any tobiano - he had a 3in 4 chance to be tobiano but got that 1 in 4 non-tobiano. Still cute though :)
-
You are right 2 kit genes only :)
-
You answered your own question, Dinascar rephrased it - yes, he got his sire's w2 instead of his tobi, and mama's w20 instead of her tobi, simple as that.
If it's important to you and you can afford it, you could GMT him to het or even hom tobiano. -
The easiest way to figure out all the possible combinations a foal can inherit is to use a Punnett square.
On a piece of paper draw a square and divide it into quarters. On the top write one half of the dams genes overtop the left half and the other over the right half. On the left side write the studs genes.
In each of the boxes write the studs and mares genes down found on the left and top side.
//////////// W20 / To
W2 / W2 W20 / W2 To
—————————————
To / To W20 / To To
There’s a 25% chance of the foal being W2 W20, W2 To, To W20 or To To
Or 25% chance if the foal only inheriting white genes and 75% being tobiano.
The foal just got the 1/4 chance of inherenting only the white patterns -
@Dinascar
Thanks.
@CrewCut
Omg. Thank you. Lol. I didn't even realize. I was so consumed in being confused, I missed my own thoughts. Lol.
@Bandit1119
Oh boy. You literally just...lost me... I'm still back there somewhere right after you said punnet square... Lol.Love,
Spry -
He's marked lovely. :D
-
If you google Punnett square it shows better than me trying to explain it but really is simple.
-
I made an **extremely** quick punnett square for ya with some description. I could only remember how to do the (4 box) one, I'm sorry lol. The other one always confused me for some reason.

Here is the one that I can't do lmao:

Yeah, I can do the two gene 16 square combo but I’m stuck trying to go any more complicated than that...
-
@MariaChapinFarm3
Omg. Wow. I envy you. I can't even do the freaking 4, really. So, I'm with you on bigger ones. LmaoLove,
Spry -
Basically once you do anything bigger than a four square, along the sides you’re writing down what the parent could pass on, instead of what they have, then combining as normal to get what the foal will end up with. It’s the transition from four to sixteen that’s tricky. Once you understand that, then you can add in as many as you want (and hope you have enough paper to make room for it, lol).ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -
Here's a sample punnet square I created to illustrate the chances for a dead foal from a cross between two horses that both carried White 1. It only has 4 boxes because that's all I ever had to learn how to do, but since it's not on its side, it might be easier to see.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

This has been a very informative discussion.
Thank Spry for asking a good question and everyone else for being wonderful people and giving great answers! :)ID# 47364
Breeding for all version of black drafts. (Including black liver)
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.
I work a 7day on 7day off schedule and my activity here will reflect that.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
@Skylight
Missed your comment somehow...
But yeah... He is... Thanks... I'm keeping him, so he'll be available in the future...
@Lallyhop
I have no clue if that was meant for me, but either way, you lost me... I'm beginning to wonder how I passed this part of biology class... LOL
@SandycreekFarm
Wow... Thanks...
@BlackWyld
Lol... Yeah... It has been... And you're welcome...
Love,

I've done trihybrid punnet squares, but they are a pain in the butt - I use different colors for each gene & allele, to make it easier to see. I much prefer making a genetics file in my breeder assistant and using that.#28036

Don't feel bad. I usually don't bother with them, myself. The only time I do something like that is when someone asks the question, "What will I get if I cross stallion A with mare Y?"
My response is to list the possible results for each gene separately. Trying to calculate possibilities for the full gene set of the prospective foal all in one lump is waay too hard for my verbally, not mathematically, oriented brain. :))De gustibus non disputandum. @SandycreekFarm
I definitely understand that! Omg. Heck, though... My brain doesn't know what it is. I'm better with words than numbers, but I'm still horrible with words. :))Love,

One of the nice things about Hunt and Jump is that you don't really need to understand color genetics and predicting possible outcomes to play the game. In fact, as you continue to play, and ask questions when something confuses you, you will find yourself gradually coming to understand more and more about those mysteries, until you will wake up one morning, come onto the forum and find a newer player asking about something and realize --Wow! I know the answer to that question!De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I used to write them all out and try to figure out possible genetics but rarely do anymore. After all these years I can pretty much do them in my head although I’ve never been good at predicting the outcome of multiple genes. I just focus on one set at a time
