GMT advantage with Cherry Drop vs Freaky Friday?
-
I am considering a GMT project to produce a black based Hom DP, Hom Sty stallion with brown and cream. I have a cherry drop and a freaky Friday stallion to work with. Each would cost almost the same to get to my goal - add sooty to the cheery drop, remove frame from the FF, add brown to both, etc.
Cherry drops are far more common, so I am inclined to use that horse. Would there be any advantage to using either? I think they have the same breeding level, no?
Which also begs the question - with Cherry Drops so common, why are FF's still so spendy? -
Because they are more rare I think. It also depends on your goals. On my A+ account cherry drops are choice foundations where as on my buckskin account I'd probably just sell them. It's what they are wanted for.45140

I think it's a mix of tradition, relative scarcity, and the Freaky's impossible hom Olw. Plus some players really covet the Freaks' "black liver" chestnut.
Is using a rank special an absolute must? You might (I'm totally guessing here, I don't have the prices memorized) able to control cost by starting with a hom At, hom Ccr, or hom Ssty? Do a create spree and see if you get lucky with a sooty brownskin from one of those herd helpers? Best bang for your buck would likely be to start with a black liver that you know is hom DP, since that's one of the more expensive mods? -
They are much of a muchness to me, I have to add sty to the cherry drops, and take frame off the freaky fridays, for those not into agouti though, obviously the FF's are a better choice
-
He's not a foundation, but a foundie version would make a good starting point?

( ! I love the phrase "much of a muchness", it's sadly underused.)

Cherry drops are able to be created at any time while FF only come out in Friday the 13th and the next one isn’t until September 2019 I believe.
-
I know Cherry Drops have DP but are they hom DP? (Maybe that uncertainty is part of the reason FFs are still traditional for starting liver lines?)
-
just in case you wanted to try, there's a Sooty Buckskin herd helper shared on the daily thread:

Yes - Cherry drops are homDP, whiich is why I was thinking of using one. Hom DP is a key feature of the new project, which is why a generic HH won't be of much use. (I did get a probably hom DP perfect foundations horse once, but I gelded him before I knew about GMTing.)
SHOW Tahoma -
I could sell this boy, if you'd like.
I also went on a create spree, and I made like 5 horses if you'd like to choose :)

I prefer to pick up people's black freaky fridays and just add the At (brown) and take one frame off. I like frame I just don't want everyone with it! If I did that withe Cherry drop it would cost me to remove the A+ to At and maybe remove the other A and then add 2 stys on, a bit more but not horrendous. I think in the future I may consider it when we have to wait 15 months til the next FF :)Thanked by 1WhiteMountain

I have this girl, if you would want to look at her. I know she's exceptionally perfect, but she might work? -
I’d recommend the cherry drop, for sure. You might be able to get one that’s already got a copy of cream, as I know a few random creates popped up with it. As for the price, as CrewCut says, tradition likely plays a role in it, since Cherries are relatively new still (plus DP is more commonly paired with chestnut, rather than anything black based, and the FF is faster to that route).ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -
I might actually have a Cherry Drop with cream. I'll look, but it would be a mare.

Ruby Red G1
I have Ruby. She already has A+ and is black based. I do have a buckskin, but she's in my pastures, sorry. -
@ChevalStables Unfortunately gender change costs 2 GMTs while adding cream just costs one, so WhiteMountain would have to find a stud with cream to save the cost of the GMT on that count.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

No problem. I'll put her in my pasture to breed to my buckskin.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind offers. But I want the stallion to be Hom DP, which is an expensive GM. I already have an eligible Cherry Drop and a Freaky Friday - I was just wondering which to use. I think I'll use the Cherry Drop, and save the FF because he is much harder to replace.
