I Need Your Opinions!

I've been very inactive on here lately, and I know part of that is because I am overwhelmed with horses and I have no clue where to start. I have a plan, though, and I want to know if you think it's reasonable.
I'm considering selling everything except show horses, gifts, GMT'd, Chinchillas, really special, and others I spent real money on.
Does this seem like a fair idea? It would really help me better organize myself on here, and would get me more money in the process. Of course, I'd want to breed everything first, to get even more money from the situation.
If I sell most of my horses, do you think I should advertise them on the forum / public sales list, or do you think I should just auction them?
Thanks in advance,
Spry

I would probably post them on the forum! If there are any left afterwards, then I would put them in the auction :)Always looking for Hidden Gates horses, sooty+ livers, snowflakes, Freaky Fridays, or satins!

I did a big reorganization last November/December to get myself a bit more involved with the game.
Over the summer I was super busy so just bred foals and kicked them out of the pasture. In Sept I did a massive spay/geld of my under 6 , about 2/3 of my stallions and sell off of most of my 10+ year old show horses.
I find the show horses overwhelm me the most even though I don’t have to do much with them but I rarely have time to even give them a name. In the spring I decided to put a limit on show horses and make room in the barn for new foals each season and I haven’t felt as overwhelmed but going forward I’m not sure how I will be making room because I’ve almost reached my goal daily bonus but am starting to breed more foals than I have aged show horses to sell. September’s cull also included tightening up stallion gene restrictions to hopefully reduce the # of show horses that have everything but the right base colour so hopefully the in and out numbers will even out. -
I throw show horses in a barn and don't name them at all, and I'd far rather cull intacts than show horses.
Spry, I do think purging your intacts would be a great way to go about a "refresh". Definitely give us all a chance at them, though! :P
You might even SBA all your chinchillas if you've only BAd any so far, as that will help you further cull numbers.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -
I don't understand why you would sell off aged show horses. They are the best show horses, who will continue to earn you the most money. You don't have to name them. I don't even name 99% of my intact mares, but you are shooting yourself in the foot by getting rid of mature show horses.Thanked by 1Xceptional

@Bandit1119
That makes sense. I try to keep most of my show horses, unless, they aren't bringing in a fair amount of money. At the moment, I'm limiting myself to 210 show horses (my entire barn labled for show horses), and then later, I'll add another barn for them, too, if I have funds. They really don't bother me, as I don't really even go into the barn, but it's nice to have them to be able to go to and tack them up when I'm bored and have nothing better to do with my time. It keeps me from spending money I don't need to be spending. Lol.
@Lallyhop
That's basically what I'm doing, except many of my show horses, if not all, are named.
Lol. Okay!
I am unable to SBA, sadly.
@dark star
I'm not selling show horses. Lol. Show horses and horses with real money spent on them are the main ones staying.Love,

If it makes you more comfortable to see your horses sell them. I would post them on the form, honestly, more people look here/ find things easier and you will probably sell them faster and make more money. I'd love to have a look at what you have.

I have 1700+ altered horses & around 850 intact horses. I don't limit my show horses as they provide the money. ;) It is a good idea to shake things up and cut back sometimes, so you don't get overwhelmed. I'd probably be interested in peaking at what you have as well, so I suggest post in the forum and letting people dig through if they can use anything.#28036

I just did a major sell off, as well, well over 1/2 my breeding stock. It's so much easier to refocus and organize everyone now.

Lol oh I am a huge supporter of keeping all the show horses and was not suggesting that you should get rid of all your show horses.
But on HJ1 where I was purging them I had over 5000 and was earning over 325k per day in bonuses with an average of 8-9million sitting in the bank at all times. It took me less than 3 days to save up to breed all of my mares (not that I needed to save up because it was already sitting in the bank) and I could throw the kitchen sink at the foals testing wise and barely make a dent.
For the most part I don’t really shop around outside my barns other than a create spree once or twice a year to refresh my foundation numbers. I breed for grullos with preferably completely grullo pedigrees and I have found that hard to find outside my own breeding and when I have bought outside horses I haven’t had luck with them staying intact since I tend throw my foals in most of my breeding barns and to bulk test everything through the barn pages forgetting that not everyone tests for everything. I’ve lost about 75% of the intacts I’ve bought.
So I really had nothing to spend the money on other than more show horse barns and and GMT’s. When I did find something I wanted I bought it and barely dented the bank.
Part of my enjoyment comes with seeing something I like then saving up for it (the longer I have to save and build anticipation the better) and I was not getting that.
So for me personally I made it a goal to reduce my numbers and my daily show bonus.
Since then I’ve also had the added benefit of helping a lot of people build their bonuses up by offering my horses to them for a fairly cheap price.
As for culling more breeding horses I already cull my breeders quite a bit and my ratio of breeders to showers is roughly 1:5 show horses even after selling off hundreds through the summer. -
Moral of the story was if you feel overwhelmed cut down on your numbers until you don’t feel like your drowning
