Rank 3: Silver Black
All horses will be Silver Black or Silver Blue Roan. They may also have additional rare genes, and may be solid or patterned.

I don't know what it is but every horse I get is roan lately. I don't like roan. If someone gets an intact daft mare without roan I would trade this girlhttp://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=382722
-
I was sort of wondering if maybe roan was more common in drafts... just from the creates I did yesterday it sort of seemed like it.
-
I think so too because for someone who is not fond of roan I'm seeing a lot of it and it's driving me crazy. lol
-
On the bright side I just color tested her. She ony has one r gene so I just might keep her and breed the roan out of her offspring.
-
Great! I'm glad she's only hz for it, because I don't think anyone had anything to trade. :P
-
I know it would be a long shot if anyone had a trade with this being a rank 3 but it doesn't hurt to ask
-
Sure. :P And I've even heard of people liking roan, so it's not an extra long shot at all. :)
-
I wonder if there are any silver blues without the roan or even just blue in game?
-
or is blue just the name given to a black horse with roan?
-
Yep, it's just black with roans that are blue. :)
-
In most animals, "blue" is the name for dilute black color, so probably what we call smokey black here? Any genetics experts able to weight in? A lot of my silver blacks and my Grullos are close to what I would think of as "blue" in a dog or cat.
-
I'm familiar with like Blue and Red merle so I didn't know if blue roan worked similar. Blue merle is simply a black dog effected by the merle gene.
-
Ive never actually thought of that Cheers, when you think of blue in cats and dogs you think of shades like some grullos and silver blacks. I've never understood why blue roans are called blue roans when no other colors have blue in the name lol
-
Fj some of the hound and gun dogs look roan to me with their "ticking" patterns... And then you've got dogs like the Queensland heelers/ Australian cattle dogs that are sort of roan and sort of Merle all at the same time....i just don't know enough about color genetics in other species except the whole tortiseshell cat bit!
-
We actually have a Red merle Chihuahua. Merle actually has the same lethal effect that some og the horse genes do. You never breed merle to merle. We have a tortoiseshell cat too lol. She my husbands velcro kitty. I don't know much about those genetics though. They do have the Russian Blue cat.
-
So in cat genetics, the genes for black or red pigmentation are on the X gene. So tortiseshell are almost always females, since they can have a black X and a red X. Occasionally you will run into male tortiseshell but they are usually chimeras or some other strange genetic variant to get both colors!
-
Sounds kind of like calico. That's very cool.
-
Oh...sorry, I'm in Australia! Calico = tortiseshell. Tho, depending on where you are calico means a tricolor (red black and white or apricot, grey and white) and tortiseshell means just black and red or grey and apricot. Here tortiseshell means any cat with red and black, whether they have white or not.
-
Are tortoiseshell is black and red, not calico. She a Halloween kitty her name is Lita Ford :)
