Flufflepuffs Christmas Dress!
  • I don't talk about it a ton but some of you know I am really passionate about sewing. I sewed my own wedding dress, have made full Victorian ball gowns and half of my new office is going to be sewing studio space. In short I LOVE to sew. I made a Christmas dress for the PFPs first real Christmas.

The silk is left over from making my wedding dress. It's a double face silk with crepe champagne on one side (the side I used for my dress) and this ice blue on the satin face. It's been finished with couture techniques through out.

    Here is the front.

The applique on the bodice is all hand stitched.

    The back.

Again hand stitched applique and hand inserted zipper

And inside out. I have the skirt flared out a bit so you can see it.

All the allowances have been whip stitched down like this to keep everything tidy and wrinkle free. The ribbon hem is hand applied completely invisible from the from but keeps all the raw edges hidden

And here is a shot of me and PFP!

  • Awesome Ammit! It is beautiful!

Love the picture! She is getting big. :)
    Thanked by 1Ammit
  • Wow. I am totally in awe of your sewing ability! And your taste...the pattern and colors and trim...wonderful!

Is the princess walking yet? (Do babies walk when they are 1 year old? )

  • Some do, but she was a preemie so she is really younger then 1 year. She is working hard on crawling and pulling her self up right now. She can zip around the house and harass the cats pretty good!

  • That dress is gorgeous. I can only aspire to be half as good as you at sewing. I love sewing, but get impatient with the details. Princess is very pretty in it, and she is getting so big!
  • Awww! She's so cute! And I looove the dress!
  • Ammit, you will have to save that dress for her once she outgrows it and get her one of the large dolls to dress it up in so she can have it for a lifetime. It really is beautiful! (I'm a sewer too, but not as good. I also sew lots of ball gown stuff) and this year I made (and still working on) new dice bags for my gamer friends. Would have had them done sooner, but only got the idea from one friend 2 weeks before Christmas, and being the person I am, I can't just make a "bag" dice bag, but got to be different. I'll try to post a picture of one once I finish it.
  • That is an absolutely GORGEOUS dress!

  • That is a marvelous dress! You are such a fine seamstress, and your attention to detail show it. I, too, made my own wedding gown and many of my daughter's clothes until she started school, but they were just plain, ordinary sewing, compared to your wonderful work. I would second the suggestion by KerredansCorral. Or let her pass it on to a potential (and distant) granddaughter. *G* Thanks for sharing.

  • Lovely dress, she's such a cutie! I was a premie baby too! :x
  • Wow, what an incredible skill to have and a passion to match. You did a beautiful job on the dress, Ammit.
  • That dress is stunning! My sewing is restricted to flesh and the occasional hem or button but my mother made most of our dresses when we were growing up so I have an idea of the work involved in simple cotton dresses with a few details. The Princess is getting so big! I hope for your sake she gives you another couple of weeks before she masters pulling up and walking but it sounds like she's not far from full mobility...
  • That's lovely! I can only mend things (like when my dogs try to rip my nephews stuffed toys apart..bad dog) my granma taught me how to do simple sewing. I'm hoping she will help me make my own wedding dress someday.

You are so talented and I love the details

  • Oh, that dress is so beautiful Ammit! You are so talented in many ways. I was never any good at sewing. I took the required Home Economic classes in high school, but barley got a passing grade. Ha!

Look how big PFP is getting, even though she is a premie. She will catch up fast enough though.
My niece was a 7 week early preemie. She was younger than a year old also with learning to walk. But she caught up shortly after turning one, and it was hard to keep up with her then.
  • Gorgeous! You're very talented! In more ways than one! lol
  • wow gorgeous dress, You are a very talented seamstress . PFP is growing up so fast, what a beautiful picture of you both such a lovely smile. hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, thank you for sharing the dress with us and the pic of you and PFP
  • Wow! That is gorgeous! PFP is such a lucky young lady to have her own designer, ;) .

  • Absolutely beautiful, I wish I had half the talent you do! I tried to change the thread on my bobbin in my sewing machine and I'm about 90% sure I broke it. That's where I'm at....

PFP is such a cute little chunk in that dress, looks like a happy baby!

  • You did an awesome job on the dress, the workmanship is expert and to make it from the left over fabric from your wedding gown just makes it that much more special. The little princess looks great and she is sure growing! I hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas :)
  • Lovely dress for a pretty and little girl. Nice job making it Ammit.
