Couple Questions
  • Hi everyone, I have a couple questions so I thought I would just do it in one post.
    1. Since this month is shorter, is breeding season still over on the 28th?
    2. I know foals have to be out of the pasture by the time breeding season ends, but does that still apply to any mares or stallions in the pasture?
    3. Lastly, what would be a reasonable price for a horse approximately ten years old with more than 400 overall points?
    Thank you for the help!
  • As far as I know, yes, breeding season is over on the 28th.

Mares should stay in the pasture as long as you can afford to keep them there. As soon as they come out of the pasture they lose that breeding bonus. Moving from pasture to pasture is ok, but don't take them up to the barn if you want to keep the full bonus. Stallions can come and go without a problem. Adult mares and stallions won't be deleted like foals will, when breeding season ends.

IF it is a gelding/spayed mare, I would pay up to 4000hbs. It would also depend on whether or not the horse has leveled off. If they have you would get the bonus from the 400+ points, but no new points.

  • Confluence, if a horse has leveled off they can still earn points. They just don't add to their training Score anymore.

For example this mare has leveled off she hasn't increased her Score in shows above 300ish for some time, BUT she still earned 14 points in her last show, and has earned 74 points so far in February. So levelled off horses can absolutely add to their points and showing bonus.

Grand Prix: Do you have a link to the horse in question you are trying to sell/buy, usually I have a better idea at pricing if I can actually look at the horse.

  • You're right, Salvistar...I was being too general!

  • @Salvistar I do not have a specific horse in mind, I am just looking for a rough estimate. :)
  • In general I think 400 points is a good amount to buy into if you're looking for horses to jump start your show bonus.

Although I would not pay more than 3000 for a spayed mare or gelding even with a high point level. There are so many spays and golds up for sale and auction all the time I feel like I am better off waiting for a good deal on a show horse.

A breeding animal with that many points it would depend on its stats such as gender, Generation, color, does it have any foals that I can looked at that show they are a good breeder? So I might be willing to pay more if I like what I see on that end.
