Question About Bay

    Is there a super dark, almost black, in game bay with pangere?
    I can't remember the exact color name.
    If there is how would I aquire/breed one?

    I think youre thinking of brown with sooty

    First is hmz sooty and also her splash covers her lighter areas and 2nd is heterozygous sooty

    So it is the brwn gene with sooty that makes them appear almost black.

    I suspect this is what you're looking for-heterozygous At, homozygous sooty.

    As for how to get it, a few of the Rank Specials are brown--Yule Log, I think Candy Appaloosa, etc.

    When I wanted to create a brown line, I got myself a brown stallion and a herd of black mares. Because brown is recessive to the other Agouti alleles (A+ wild bay and A bay) it gets hidden quickly. Having black mares meant they didn't have any dominant Agouti alleles to cover up my brown.

    Thanks hun! Yes I love it with dp and yes that is an awesome suggestion of breeding with black foundies. I have quite a few black foundies too for my blaxk line and I obviously dont need that many black foals! Lol.

    I like the mahogany brown you get with DP, but I also love the bright red belly on the regular sooty Het browns. It reminds me just a little of a robin redbreast!
