GMT project

1G Legal Esteem GMT
I’ve been working on this little guy. He’s my first major GMT project. I have everything where I want it so far, just deciding on what special genes to add to him. I was planning on white 3, because it’s my favorite white gene. I also started thinking about KP. Is there an ice gene that comes out every year? If so then I also would want to think about putting it on one of my horses, possibly him. Last decision is whether to add a copy of wild bay. But - I don't really want to do ALL of that. Opinions?ID: 16853Thanked by 1supersarah -
Also- should I take off one of his frames? I love the way frame interacts with w3 but would it work the same with only one? Sorry for all the newbie questions, I've been playing for almost a year but just now really delving into the genetics. :)ID: 16853

Your boy is a FF and thus special in the fact that he's hom frame! If you breed a horse with homozygous frame, you get a lethal/dead foal. If you breed him to mares without frame then that's fine.
A good way to stop lethality with frame occurring is by keeping it out of your stallions. That way you get plenty of mares with lovely patterns, and a good stallion to pair them with!
If you take off one frame, then only half his babies would get a copy, so you would only have a 1 in four chance of getting a dead foal if you breed him to a frame mare.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

He’s gorgeous!
I also love love love W3 Frame. Taking off one of his frame copies wouldn’t change the interaction between the two genes, though there is a wide range of expressions so you might need to fiddle with rerolling him a few times to get him where you want him.
Taking off one frame would mean not all of his babies would have Frame. As Obsidian has said, Frame is homozygous Lethal, so if you leave both frames on him, you would be doing really risky breeding if you wanted to breed his offspring together. I don’t mind a bit of Frame in my Foundation stallions, but like Obsidian I try to keep it out of my lined colts to prevent Lethal foals.
KP is such fun to play with. However, remember It has to be homozygous and there have to be two Kit Pattern genes for it to show. So you’d need to add 2 patterns (could be two of the same or two different) plus two copies of KP. For best results you then need to breed him to mares who also have 2 Kit patterns so all the foals have two....if gets complicated to start a KP herd. He’s just a baby so you have plenty of time to plan and build him a harem, but it’s worth thinking about what needs to go into it.
I love the Ice genes. Usually one comes out somewhere in the Thanksgiving-Christmas range so he would definitely be young enough to get that gene. It may be a cash only gene (not able to be purchased with game money) and it will almost definitely be closed. Closed genes turn some people off a bit (though now that we can sell altered foals I hope that will help a little!).
I love wild bay. You won’t see it on him but you could see it on any of his black based offspring. I think that one is really up to you, but it’s worth noting that since all of his foals will be het for DP, his wild bay foals would be that beautiful blood red bay color.
If he were my project, I would probably take off one of his frames no matter what and then sit back and wait to see what the new Ice gene is. If you love it and want it on your livers, I’d throw it on him, decide about the wild bay and go. If you love it but want it on another horse or if the ice just doesn’t float your boat, I’d give him the W3 and consider KP and wild bay from there. I probably wouldn’t try to do W3 and KP and Ice all on the same horse because you’re likely to end up with all the patterns fighting each other.

Thanks Cheers! Loving this answer. Very thorough. Thanks. :)
I'm aware wild bay won't show on him or any of his chestnut offspring... but I have a ton of buckskin and wild bay mares to breed to him so I'm thinking I'm just going to go ahead and throw a copy of that on him. I'll take off a frame and wait out the w3 or ice. KP can wait till I get some other things figured out! All decided now. Thanks again.
*I'll also most likely be selling straws after I get him all done!ID: 16853 -
I look forward to seeing him all finished up and will definitely be looking for straws!
