Stallion Quality
  • I have this stud and after breeding him for the first time, I got a horribly low number of intact foals. I know at least one of the mares is 100% breeding quality yellow papered and another is the same but papered red. Should I cut my losses now and geld him now or should I give him another shot next season?

  • From what I can see, he only has 9 foals total which is a really low number to tell anything from. He needs to have a lot more than 9 to be able to tell his breeding ability. Breed him again next season to mares with full pasture bonus. You may have just had rotten luck this season.
  • You have learned nothing about his quality from the number of intact foals. His paper score and AFPT will tell you FAR more.
  • Thank you! I wasn't sure if that was already telling or if I should wait. I'll try him again next month.
  • My Plaid guy didn't have a high intact rate but is equivalent to a perfect Foundation (comp test)
Some months horses have a good season sometimes they have a bad season.
Even with an even breeding quality pair you aren't guaranteed an intact foal :D

Hopefully he brings you more intact Foals :)
