Kalilm is right, it all depends on what you prefer in your lines. T

That being said, most people prefer at least an A/Blue by 4th gen. I won't accept B/Reds in anything past 2g.

Personally I'd never keep a B paperered gen4, it's usually not that hard to get A papered stallions by gen3
Especially if the sire is A papered, I mean ideally you'd want him superior to that to improve your lines. If you aren't trying to improve then it doesn't really matter what he is though

Some people are more lenient with special genes, nothing wrong with that. If he passed SBA, then he should be pretty close to his sire's quality (likely high B with low A sire). I would probably breed him to a group of mares a couple times and see what he produces. I'd bet he'd produce A/Blue easy and you can be more strict with his sons, keeping only the very best one(s). If nothing else, you can get some pretty show ponies. :)

I'll make exceptions for special genes if I pick up a horse that's a higher gen but not where I like their quality.

If you worry about even gens, you can just find other lower quality higher gens to breed him to, like 4th gen red mares.

If you don't care about even gens, you can just breed him to any red mares for the best chance of intact foals and cull them the way you would any other foals of a B/Red pairing.

I have a few lines that I've allowed to not be at the same place as their generation should be but that I basically just treat like they're a lower generation. Really it depends on what you want from that line - it won't progress as fast as other lines - like, your 6th generation from that line won't be as high a quality as a 6th generation that eliminated Bs in the 2nd or 3rd generation, but progress isn't the only thing to go after here. You can still get quality foals from him.

If it's a special gene I'd use him then. So I'd use all G4 blue mares to try and bring up the quality of foals. Less intacts but hopefully you'll get a a few keepers
