Guess The Genes

Ooh, pearls are so tricky... I'll go with buckskin pearl. Rose might be right about the dun.

Nope, but excellent deductive reasoning Rose, since you know I have Pearl in my wild bay line. And Abbey, since you know I have Dark Pearl.
She's actually smokey black pearl frame.

Nice! I thought she was a little dark... :P
-
I think Baya's is a black appaloosa, but I can't tell if it's a really really big blanket or if frame is affecting it. :P
-
If she had frame, she wouldn't have such large socks, so no frame. Just a big blanket, almost a leopard, but not quite.
-
True.
Anyway, since there's no way of seeing if we're right, I've got another one. :D -
I'm just going to take a wild stab at this and say a Silver Grullo with sooty. Not sure what kind of sooty but sooty none the less.
-
Basically right, but I'm wondering if there's any DP, because that's way redder than all the other ones I just got.
http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=349436 -
I wasn't sure if it had DP or not because I'm not experienced enough to know what it looks like with this color but that's exactly what I'm going to do with the one I got.
-
Here's a normal silver grullo for comparison:
-
Is she homo or het sooty?
-
I want to say possibly DP after looking at some of the homo sty's. I know Abbey has a better eye for it then I do though.
-
it looks like she has DP

This Red Dun mare of mine is definatly a DP carrier. and she also carries Wild bay
http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=339267
This is her filly this year, i bred her to mission control and got a Dp red dun foalLife is Special live it to your fullest -
Rose, did you test your grullo? Sometimes those warmer colors can mean cream. I have a lot of pearls that look warmer like that, so cream (smokey grullo) might do the same thing. I kinda doubt DP, I'm not sure if you can see it on grullo at all (worth testing). Is she color tested?
But she is a similar color to my stallion Ventralis - no DP but he does have pearl.

irl i go to a Ag school and we have 6 horses there. 2 mares ( a black and white pinto and a bay TWH) and 4 geldings ( a chestnut and white pinto, a QH PH cross who is pure black besides his blaze, a mutt pony who is 18 months and a brat, and a Chestnut/red roan mustan who looks like an appy)Life is Special live it to your fullest

I did test her, and there's nothing unusual. :P

I thought she was brindle. XO
-
Nope that's classic Rabicano markings
-
The word Rabicano reminds me of the word ribs which is where the markings show up. That's how I remember that one.
-
I've seen rabicano before, but even the darker bits behind the rabicano? It seemed to be something else. :P
-
I suspect that if you took off her rab, you would see she's rather dark through the barrel. Rab seems to express as everything from the faintest of white ticking on the belly to extensive stripey roaning from the hip and up across the shoulders/chest. This girl seems to have this greater expression of the gene... I haven't color tested many of mine but I suspect they have either homo Rab or extensive white factor or both...
-
I should note that I have to look carefully when it expresses this way to make sure I don't mark them Roan and cull them!
-
It's "ribby rabi" :D I love that the game generates that degree of realism.
It's hilarious that 70% of the horses that come up when you search for rabicano are models. -
I wonder how rare it is? I've only ever seen one horse in real life with rabicano. My professor of my equine reproduction class had never even heard of it.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

The next installment of on-the-fence colors:
I just bred this mare from my Yule Log Stud and a black Random Create mare. She seems just sliiightly dark for a normal chestnut. The dam isn't color tested. :P

Grey for sure. As for DP, hard to tell without knowing how much sooty there is...
-
I'm gonna guess grey of course, double sooty, het dp.
I am in no way an expert on DP and without her being color tested obviously all you can do is guess but thats my guess! lol
