Ageing and tack
-
Hi sorry for the newbie question but I'm wondering how long it takes for 3yr old horses to turn 4? I didn't realise when creating all my foundation horses that I might not be able to breed them for awhile!
Also wondering where people get tack from? I see the copy tack option but wondering where this is accessed in the first place. I assume it then allows entry into more shows.
Thanks in advance. -
Tack is purely for looks. You can only enter two shows a week. To get more tack packs, go to Upgrades and Extras -> Upgrade with Game Money - > IV Shopping. To put tack on your horse, go to your horses page and click on the tab at the top that says "Tack". Everyone should have some tack to play with, no matter their upgrade status, although upgraded accounts get more free tack options than free accounts.
At the start of every month, horses age up a year. Yearlings/foals that were born that season turn 2 years old though. Mares can breed at 4 years old, and Stallions can breed at 3. Both stop being able to be bred from at age 20 (or is that their last year to be bred from? Can't remember). Horses start aging out of the game the time they turn 18.

Thanks very much. I see the breeding season starts in early May so it's good to know I will be able to breed then.
I don't know if I have enough points/HB (?) to spend on tack at this point in time but I will keep that in mind if I manage to get my stable off the ground :) -
That's actually a misprint. HJ1 has a different breeding season. In HJ2, breeding season starts on the 3rd of every month (for free accounts, 2nd for upgraded), with pasture opening later. It closes on the 28th of every month.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I've read the FAQ and in the testing section it mentions 'Breeding Inspection' in order to get horses papered. How do I access that? I've done genetic testing and breeding advice, and only had 1 filly spayed so I'm hoping to get the rest of them inspected prior to breeding season.
I've only done the performance testing for 2 of them as it would probably be a bit expensive if I did every horse. Or does the quoted price refer to testing the whole barn as opposed to 500/1000hb each? -
Actually @ObsidianKitsune as of the end of this breeding season hj1 will be changing to one month years so will be on the same breeding season as hj2 .
-
I'm also wondering why my cobs have a point score in the 90s while my RH and warmbloods are in the 200s. Is it not worth creating more of those pony type animals?
-
the price for testing is per horse. To paper your horse you need an upgraded account
-
Ah, didn't know that. Thanks Jailee!
And there is another mistake with the pricing of BI and BA. BA, breeding advice, which can automatically alter a horse, is free. BI however costs 1k per horse, excluding altered stock. BI is unlocked when one gains the basic upgrade or higher, whereas SBA (strict breeding advice) is only for premium members.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Points are randomly assigned for members under 20k points. You've just gotten bad luck for your ponies than for your horses point wise.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Okay thanks for clarifying, seems there's a few typos making things confusing!
If I were to put the horses with lower point scores up for auction on Sunday, do I automatically get my 2500 back even if they just get sucked back into the game rather than another player buying them?
I did read something about players being able to buy a decent horse from the 'Foundation Rescue', where would I find that? I'd like to try and improve my stable as much as I can before I'm tempted to breed them lol -
All of the foundation rescue'a horses can be found in the horse search. Just put "13" in the owner id and click search! You can then sort by colour, height, bone, anything you want! Their horses can be a bit bland sometimes, but are all Perfect Foundation quality. If you have a good idea of any horse you want, you could always make a post looking for horses like that with specific breeding ability (either found by HH or papering)
Every single horse sold at auction goes for at least 2500hbs, paid by the game. If someone else bids on them, then you'll get more money.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

We are in the process of updating the FAQ/guide. The Getting started section, however, is mostly finished. Check it out! :)
-
I will have to check out the search function, thanks! Does it cost anything to put horses up for auction? And as a rule is it a good idea to get rid of anything below say 250 points that isn't a nice colour?
-
It costs nothing to put a horse up for auction. As for what horses you keep for the points, it all depends on you. I try to keep everything I can, and the rule about new accounts getting horses created with points is rather new, and I have no experience with it, so I feel like I can't really advise on it...Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Alright then, I guess I'm just impatient to get more HB so I can try creating different combinations. The first 6 horses or so I made with the same 2 herd helpers before I realised you could use anyone's shared in the forum
-
That's up to you, and depends on how much room you have in your barn. Remember that as you train a horse its show score improves, allowing it to place higher in its classes and to show in higher level classes. As it ages, it will continue to add points every time it is shown, unless it has the horrible luck to always come in last. The higher level classes generally accept more horses than the Level 1 and 2 classes, so it is easier to gain points for the horses that have advanced beyond that point.
Are you able to use the Performance Test? It does cost 500 hbs per horse, but it is a good indication of how well it will train. I would suggest auctioning any horse with a PT score below 9, and probably any horse that is also inconsistent. It's easier to keep track of consistent horses, especially when you're just starting out.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

It’s not so much that the FAQ’s have typos it’s that this game is constantly evolving so the faqs get outdated frequently.
My strategy for gaining points when we recently had a contest to see who could collect the most in a short time was to fill my welcome pack barn and then when I created/bought more higher pointed horses I would kick out the lowest pointed horse into my primary barn and anything in my primary barn was up for sale or put in the auction. As I made more money I invested in larger barns and filled those with keepers.
Now with the new account under 20k creating pointed horses I’ve spent the last month creating and selling for a profit to pad up my bank account before resuming my quest to collect as many points as possible.
I have the best luck creating yearlings with the following herd helpers:
exceptional show horse
great show horses
exceptional producers
Perfect foundations
exceptionally Perfect
The colour hh’s are ok if someone is looking for a particular colour but their abilities are unknown and I find they tend to sit around longer before being snapped up while the above hh’s have somewhat known abilities.
I’ve been selling the pointed horses quickly by adding 500hbs/100 points and posting a sales ad with a search link listing all my sales horses and replying to that post whenever I add more so that I’m not creating 1001 new posts.
0-99 points - 3000hbs
100-199 points - 3500hbs
200-299 points - 4000hbs
300-399 points - 4500hbs
400-499 points - 5000hbs
500 points and above I ran an auction forum (ended with 55k for a 943 pointed great show horse yearling) or added them to my herd -
The pointed yearlings won’t gain points as fast as an older horse that has been training for a few months and aren’t breedable for a few months but they will have a head start in the points division so until they do start to earn their keep they are still contributing not just taking up space.
-
That's all very helpful! So show horses are where the money is, as opposed to trying to collect pretty colours straight away?
Another silly question, is it better to create mostly mares? I saw that the paddocks are one stallion to multiple mares so is it better to have a number of decent varied females than trying to create a high level stallion? Is it easier just to breed to someone else's stud that has the traits you're looking for? -
If you look at the math -- each stallion can breed 50 times a month and each mare can breed once. So yes, most people have far more mares!
Whether or not your ladies are all varied in terms of colors and genetics is really up to you.
Depending on what your goals are, it CAN make sense to use someone else's stallion -- if you want a difficult-to-acquire gene, or if you're trying to bootstrap (which is taking low level mares and breeding them to a high quality stallion to try to drag the next generation up in quality quickly). If you're interested in finding out more about bootstrapping, there's a buddy group you can join.
Show horses are where the money is for sure -- the weekly salary is nice but the show bonus cash comes in every day and is where the veteran players get most of their hb. -
I will have to make sure I keep my higher pointed horses to use for shows then even if I don't like their colours haha. I had a couple nice coloured ones gelded by breeding advice so at least they might still be useful in making me money.
-
Is it worth showing low point animals or is it best to sell them and buy or create new ones?
-
For sure developing a good base of show horses is key.
My primary barn on HJ2 (bandit1119 #137) is much smaller than on HJ1 but with just over 1000 show horses they earn me an extra 75k a night! on top of my payday deposit of 25k for being a premium upgrade. Which means I can afford to buy the fancy colours I want.
On hJ1 I’m in the process of filling my 5th 1000 stall show barn with altered horses and earn an extra 300k/night
I show all my horses but the altered horses only job is to just print money and the older they are, the more points they’ve collected the better they print the money! They also cover for the younger horses that haven’t come into their own yet until they do.
While on the other hand breeding horses cost money both in the fees to breed, stalls for foals to take up space in until they are profitable on their own, and potential show bonus profit if you leave the mares in the pastures they miss out on showing to earn points so they often have much less total points than an equally aged show horse so you lose out on the potential profit show horses could make in those stalls.
But Intact horses can be just as effective showing and earning points and you can put them up for breeding for some extra money. -
Low pointed horses are often sold cheaper and during the contest I mainly picked up horses with 3-18 points and within a month they had over 50 or 100 points added. The main thing is that they are being trained weekly even if they aren’t showing.
-
Is there a best time of day to enter in shows? I've got a few horses entered but they've been in there for hours with only one other horse in their classes.
-
Best time is Sunday through Tuesday. Classes fill pretty fast those days since it’s earlier in the week.
-
I see, looks like I joined on the wrong day of the week lol
-
I’m sure the classes will run eventually, it can just take longer. Also, you can scratch your entry and re-enter in the class that’s filled the most. It doesn’t matter if your horses compete against each other either.
-
Thanks maybe I will try that. I'm guessing I then forfeit my entry fee though?
-
Nope, it’s returned to you :)
-
You get your entry fee back.
I forgot to put that the 3-18 point horses I bought that earned points quickly were all 6-17 years old so they had at least 2 months of training they just weren’t being shown -
Bonus, thanks for letting me know.
