While I do not want to steer away from my goal to breed true to life Thoroughbreds in basically all but name, I've realized I've become a bit bogged down and I feel like everything has grown too quickly . Did anyone else do a complete clean slate and how did you do it? Did you sell all of your breeding stock or did you keep a select few and send the rest to auction? Obviously I will keep my show herds, and any horse that I truly want to keep, but I just don't know where to begin downsizing. I especially since I like to keep everyone in the barn unless I want pasture bonus. I don't know whether I should sell my barns for IVs and get a bunch of 30 stalls so that way I can make sure to have enough room for my lines as well as their foals, or what.

I’ve done a complete cull where I sold everything to the auction.

I’ve done a breeding cull and spayed / gelded everything that wasn’t what I wanted to breed for.

Personally I prefer the biggest barns I can (210 for breeding stock and 1000 for show stock) I mostly use the search function for any culling, testing, breeding, comparisons and naming but my barns are all sorted by generations so I can cull by paper level at a glance (I only keep the 2 highest papers in each barn) and narrow my search to a single generation

I would start with the horses your not using very much or haven't used for a long while, particularly stallions. Either send to auction or geld/spay if they have a lot points. Also any with special genes you don't want you could do a forum auction with.

Maybe sort into groups of definitely and maybe and work out about how many total you want to keep. Also I find introducing stricter guideline on who gets kept as breeding stock can greatly reduce numbers.

It can be beneficial to cut out any leveled off show horse with less than say 200 points and replace them with exceptional show horses that get created with points from the newer players.
