Massive Image Generator Update Coming Dec 1st -All horse images will update!
-
Back in July, I warned everyone that this was coming, and now it is finally time to see it in the game.
Every image in the game is updating!
If you love the specific markings or look of any of your horses you have this weekend to save the images to your computer. We are prepping for mass updating. This will not impact your tack/backgrounds/awards/BC choices etc. It will change the colors and markings of your horses.
Why is this update happening?
Our image generator was originally designed for only the two near-side legs. This worked great for a long time and worked ok with the side poses for the BCs up until now but we want to offer much more dynamic poses. Doing so required a huge update on the generator so it now generates fourlegs independently instead of just the two.
I like the old generation why do I have to update my horses?
The process of making things work for four legs removed all the stop-gap measures we had added to make it sort of work for the new standing BCs. None of those BCs will work correctly after this update without regenerating the horse. Additionally, we have a ton of horses in the game that still have generations from before those half-measures were implemented and they really won't look right at all. There are to many horses that NEED to be updated for us to mess around with making it optional.
How will the update happen?
We have added a tracker that takes note of the last time your horse's image was refreshed or regenerated. The next time your horse's image refreshes for any reason (be it tack update, award, aging, image to old, etc) it will regenerate the image instead of refreshing.
Once this update goes out, every horse in the game will have an image that is flagged as "too old" and its image will automatically regenerate when the page is loaded. To see the new generation you will only need to open your horse's page.
At this time it will require a page open to update an image. We plan in the future to run a slow mass update to update the rest of the images in the background but have no eta on that.
How will my horses be impacted
First of all, brace yourself for marking changes. With every update comes the chance that markings can change a good deal. I had to edit almost all genes to make them work for this update and any time I touch them the change that markings will be different increases. Just plan for that to happen.
This update also comes with a ground-up rebuild of bay so that agouti promoter can work properly and be more realistic. I also adjusted the tones slightly on chestnut-based horses and cream expressions.
-Black-based horses won't see a ton of changes to their color.
-Red-based (chestnut) horses will see some minor tone shifts, mostly more saturation at the lighter end.
-All bay horses in the game are going to see a LOT of changes. Sooty and sooty plus have been made more distinct from one another.
-Agouti plus horses will see the most change of all, as agouti plus is now just a part of regular bay and simply reduces the overall amount of black expressed. Expect your wild bays to look more wild bay like and your dark agouti plus horses to be like other bays.
-Cream horses have also been updated to be richer in tone.

Major Art Asset Updates
National Art Update: Our national BCs have had some minor shading tweaks to bring them more in line with our other newer BCs. Nothing major. In this image, you can compare the old shading to the new. The riding horse and draft have similar changes.
Fresian Art Update:The Fresian BC was an early attempt by our team and we were still learning what worked well in the game. Once this is out your Fresian BCs will change to this new shading style.
Satin Art Update: I know a lot of people loved the old satin art, but it had some issues with distorting colors, not always showing well, not being very realistic etc. It was time for the game to move on to something my dynamic and realistic. This new satin will work on any color base. I fully expect when it is first launched that sometimes it will be too shiny and sometimes not enough but that can be tweaked now. I expect to be adjusting the brightness of edge cases for a while.
And some other new satin generation
Additional Updates
On top of the above updates there are a bunch of small updates you should also be aware of.
-Axiom and Nexus used to cancel each other out. They no longer do.
-Some pinto horses had overly bright blue eyes. I took away their spice so they now had normal blue eyes.
-The lowest expression of roan has been increased so you will get fewer roan horses with no visible roan.
-Often tails were brighter than manes, this has been rebalanced so mane and tail are more equal in shade.
Known issues
-Some BCs have white color chips in the hooves, and incorrect markings on the far side rear legs. I just need to make some adjustments to the files on these BCs and will soon here.
- Gray far side legs are a bit dodgy at some graying levels. It's nothing too bad but something I am aware of.
-We have a bunch of older white marking genes that are not dynamically generated and will not be correctly generating far-side leg markings. I will work on these on a case-by-case basis after this launch.
-Satin will need some edge case adjustments to dial in the brightness.
-I expect a large number of hotfixes to come out in rapid succession as we identify colors that are not quite right. I can only test so many horses and with billions of genetic combinations it is only logical that some cases will need adjustments.
