Breeding stock versus show stock
-
I'm not sure how to word this question, but basically back in February I decided to start trying to create a show line. Many of the members here have helped me with a lot and have explained a lot to me. I'm still trying to perfect my breeding and make sure I have a decent line selection.i don't even breed but have been thinking about giving it a try soon
My problem is that showable horses are always cut...how do I create a strict show line when they get cut all the time.
Most of my intact showers are mares which makes sense to me, mares and stallions have different requirements.
Maybe I'm not understanding the standards of GA and MA?
I did create several new horses to try getting more color (as my line is mostly red roan right now) as well as trying to see if I could get different showers out of the deal
My ID is 5453 in case anyone wants to look through my current barn----

Maybe something you could try is to pull a secondary stud from your breeding quality line and use him as a show foal stud. :)
For a showing line, I think you still need some quality, at least to keep some more intact, and to raise the PT as you go along. Of course, you'll want to cut a lot of them anyway, because they train better when they're altered. :) -
I do go ahead and cut most of them even though I don't like It haha. I just got two new A papered studs from Cheers. I pasture bred them to my showing foundation mares. I plan on keeping 2 of the Colts intact. Most passed the GA though which was surprising----

Awesome! That is pretty surprising! Was a mare the top foal in the email?
-
Nope, the top foal was a colt and all they're mothers were foundations except 1 I snipped a couple already. They just weren't what I wanted in my lines.
I also don't think I've ever had a mare be the best foal from pasture----
