Shaved leg?
  • I have a draft mare who has a shaved patch on one leg - as if a vet had shaved for bloodwork or an IV catheter. What the heck? Will it grow back as she ages?

Now that I look, I have several with this.

  • Thats just a white marking.. randomly horses may have random white patches but i would say yours is from her frame. :)
Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.

    Horses generally always available.
    PM me for any enquiries.
  • It's not a marking, though. If you look closely, you can see the hair is longer above and below. It looks shaved like a small animal vet would do to place an IV catheter in a dog or cat. And every draft I have has it, same leg, same place.

Or maybe every draft I have has awful legs? Seems about my luck.

  • Its just a marking :)
I breed drafts and i have a few that have some odd markings.. i have too many to go through to find an example but its perfectly normal and makes them unique :)
Horses also get their catheters in the neck also not the leg..

  • Um what the heck is this post ? It's just a marking lol. /:)
  • I just tested a new horse, and it doesn't look odd, so I wouldn't think it was medical. Maybe it's the shaggy feathers throwing you off?
  • Unless a horse has an extreme amount of feathering they don't have long hair on the front of their legs. Perfectly realistic. If you want giant feathers you will need to buy the "big floof" tack pack.

  • Fair enough. The few drafts I am around all have thick feathering all around their lower legs. It makes me long for clippers.

I would rathet buy a tack pack that let me shave those off than one that lets me add more! If I could body clip my homeless looking shaggy foals too, it would be worth the hb.

Thanks for answering even though you thought it was a stupid question.
