Who would you keep?
-
So I’m narrowing down my stallion prospects and thought it would be interesting to see who other players would hold back and why.
Out of these colts, who would you keep for your program?

I would start by only keeping those superior to sire :)●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

It would depend on what your goals are.
Personally for my own herd I only breed Grullos so I snip non grullo horses or mark them to be reassessed before they are to old to be GMT’d although unless they are something special they tend to be snipped before I end up GMTing them.
I then go through and snip all non superior or inconsistent colts. If a stud has multiple sons that have made it through testing I compare against each other but I will keep AGA brothers. If I still have a ton I either compare colours and keep the ones with genes I desire more or keep the top 3 PT’d colts. -
@ParadisePark, I’ve comparison tested all of them and the results are in their notes.
-
I would just keep the best of them, so at least A papered for gen3, and the gen2's see if any of them are superior to an exceptional foundation stallion, to make them a high B, A is even better!
-
The first boy, The Wrong Spot, while he is gorgeous and superior, I’m not liking the PT on a 3rd gen. He would be on my short list.
The second boy, Secret Squash, as a 3rd gen B coming from a foundation of B/red on both sides of his line and only testing AGA is a snip in my barn.
The third boy, Stars in the Desert, gets a pass to see what he produces since he comes from a B/yellow cross. I would want to see A/blue out of him with full pasture bonus red mares or he gets snipped too. I would give him a season or two.
The fourth boy, Spotted Wine, I would also let pass and see what he produced.
The fifth boy, Hardly a Gamble, would be a keeper. I would get a GMT to fix his inconsistency. He is superior and carries snowflake and KP. Definite keeper in my barn.
For Autta Like Cats, I would be on the fence. He has the S+ I want in my lines and is superior, but I would not be happy about only one sooty gene and no DP. However, that would be my fault. I would see what his male siblings tested before deciding.
For Squash A Secret, definitely keep. A papers, superior, and snowflake. What’s not to like?
For your Macchiato colts, I’m torn. I would honestly keep both just to keep papers even with potential mare mates. But I would totally understand only keeping the A boy to get blue papers faster.
For Secretly Southern, I would sell him or snip him. He has a half brother that picked up the snowflake. No need for him.
For Hollywood, keep. He’s got ice and is superior, and if you want to keep it in your lines he’s a good option. I would, however, keep an eye open for a better option with better PT.
With Framed, I would again consider GMT’ing consistent since he is superior to his sire and is het KP.
Wow this got long, but I wanted to address each horse since you asked for opinions. Hope this helps some!Thanked by 1Lallyhop -
Id keep the ones that score 10.00 or higher/ and or if they score AGA/worse than sire id sell em.

FallenShadows gave a good run down, just an add though, the horses PT has nothiong to do with their breeding ability. If a horses is superior to sire, then he's still better than his sire no matter what his PT is. Inconsistency brings PT down though
-
I use PT as a last resort tie breaker just to have a hard limit number of colts from any particular stud.
-
Kintara is 100% right, PT doesn’t affect breeding ability. I just try to increase my PT scores each generation as well as my breeding ability.
