Best Pasture Foal Spayed?
-
I bred one of my pastures (almost all mares have full bonus) and checked my email, it said this foal http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=431905 was the best of the lot... but she got spayed in free testing. What does that mean? There were 12 or so fillies who did not get spayed (only two out of 30 did, including the BPF, and no geldings). The sire is a rank special.

Hey Abbey. I mentioned I have had this happen a few times on one of Dena's threads the other day. Ammit responded and mentioned that strict mare testing tests both breeding and showing quality and that sometimes SMA will snip fillies for being inconsistent....so she may have been the best breeder in the bunch but because her show quality wasn't as high she got snipped.
It certainly doesn't say anything on the test page about SMA also looking at show quality...and I have never had this happen with GA...so I don't know...it's definitely enough to make you pull out your hair!Thanked by 1Abbey Road -
Often when that happens they are inconsistent, as said the SMA does include consistencey in it's evaluation
-
Not only that testing is based on the parents of a horse not compared to each other.
SMA does not snip if show quality is not high enough. It's a comparison. Breeding quality has to be up to snuff or they get spayed.

Consistency is involved in show quality though, right? I'm confused as to how it's involved with SMA.
I guess what I'm asking is whether I should consider the whole batch inferior. -
No I would not. SMA looks at like 5 different factors and a foal can fail on any of them. The email you get looks at only 1 factor.
