What happened in this show?
-
I entered my horse in a show last week.
I came back today and looked at his "Records" tab and saw that he came in 1st. Yay!
But his main page showed that he LOST money. Huh? http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=431974.
I looked more closely at the class itself and saw that he was the only horse entered and that no points or earnings were awarded for the show. http://hj2.huntandjump.com/classes.php?class=4806231
What happened? How do I avoid this in the future?
-
The rewards of a show are based on how many horses were in the show, not just who came first. That means that instead of splitting a pot between however many entrants there were, to certain weights, the reward actually counts up from last place. Last place gets awarded 0 money and 0 points no matter how many horses are in the show (The money he lost was the entrance fee). This also means that the more entrants there are, the better reward the top horse will get. This is extra incentive to enter your horses in shows with more competitors, I stead of trying to spread them out over all the shows you can find. :)
I think this is unusual, but the best way avoid it is to sign up your horses to shows that already have another entrant or two. The lowest level of show usually only runs with two entrants anyway, to make it slightly more even, since most horses start out in the same small range. I hope this helps, and welcome to HuntandJump! :) -
Showing foals is always a coin toss! You have a beautiful colt there!
