I’m very glad to finally be able to do my pasture breeding for the season... Didn’t realise the stallion I was using carried DP until I got this liver colt out of a het sooty chestnut mare. Not only that, but he papered A, the only foal in this crop to paper above B/Red! I’m feeling pretty stoked right now (and also looking forward to my first overseas holiday next month, hence his name!)

Is there any way of knowing whether this half sister also inherited DP from the stud? Having dun and roan makes it slightly difficult to tell

The mare is only het sooty, she looks like the DP carrier. But either way, congrats! I love surprised like that.

This is the mare he was out of. So if a horse is het sooty and het DP they aren’t a liver?

I’m going to Queenstown in NZ for a week with my dad! I live in Australia so it’s not too far for my first overseas trip. Just need to organise petsitters for all my animals, but still have a month to figure out the details :D

From how it is explained you need hom one and het the other for liver, (DP DP STY or DP STY STY) and hom both for black liver (DP DP STY STY).

It sounds like it will be a great trip. I have been dying to make my way down to your end of the work for years.
Finding petsitters is always the difficult part.

Ah okay. I wonder if I should keep the mare now that I know it was probably her that passed it on... Was such a pleasant surprise!

We’re so far away from everyone else it seems, but I have to say it’s probably worth the flight. I love where I live but have been hoping to visit New Zealand for ages. Just a little worried about the cold, I’m a summer baby myself xD

And we’re supposed to leave on August 18th which is my dog’s 7th birthday and my goat’s 4th birthday... feeling a little guilty that they won’t get their annual joint birthday party

As a Canadian NZ has always enticed me a tiny bit more than Australia. I do NOT do heat very well. I lived in southern Arizona for three months and by June I could not wait to go back to my blessed North. They thought I was hilarious. LOL

I would have a hard time leaving my guys on their shared B'day too. My fur babies are all rescues so I don't currently have that problem.

Thanks I’ll have to check it out. I’m not good at picking up on DP since I don’t keep many bays or buckskins (surprising since that’s my favourite real life colour).
Canada looks amazing! I watch Heartland and always hope I can visit some of those scenic places someday. But yeah I think it’s all what you’re used to. I’ve only seen snow once before so even that will be a thrill!
Will definitely keep an eye on the auction :) Wish it wasn’t still a day away as I’m running low on HBs and barn space haha
