To cull or not to cull?
  • I'm in a mood to just pretty much cull my entire stable. Someone take my keyboard away before all my pixels are sacrificed to the Goddess Arengee. :-t
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.

For the love of all things pixilated and pony.... DON'T DO IT! LOL

At least give us a shot at some shinies $-)

On a more serious note, do whatever feels right. I am considering sending a ton of foundies to auction if I can get up the courage in the next week or so. X_X

Breeding for all version of black drafts. (Including black liver)
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

I work a 7day on 7day off schedule and my activity here will reflect that.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me.
  • I am trying to figure things out as well.
  • Don't do that, Ceffyl! You've got a lot of awesome pixel ponies in your barns, it'd be a shame for them to poof! :-S

  • Definitely don’t just cull everything! If you are feeling overwhelmed with the number of intact horses, then sit down and streamline some of your lines. It’s not always bad to go through and run everything through SBA to help with the streamlining. I did that a month ago and wound up with a full 60 stall barn of spayed breeding age mares (from outside lines) that just weren’t up to snuff. Any mares that don’t have enough of the genes you want them to have, cull or keep them for public brood. Studs...well we all have too many of them lol
  • As vengeful as Arengee is, don’t give her more than she demands, lol!

If you need help making things easier to sort through, though, at least allow us to help. We’ll all be happy to sort through your barns like a pack of hungry scavengers, I’m sure!

  • Don’t cull what you can’t easily replace. Anything else? Off with its testicles at the very least!!!

  • =P~

    .....

Just to clarify, that drool emoji pertains to Lally's suggestion to let us "help" thin out your herd.

It is not associated with Cheers mention of testicles I swear! ;)

  • I culled out a lot of mares that I kept because of pretty colours, but if they didn't paper right or were inconsistent they got snipped, it's cut my breeding herd right down but hopefully it'll improve my quality and also I was finding it harder to sell foals so I decided producing less foals so I can keep them all is probably a better way to go about it.

  • I've just got rid of all my breeders that had S or A as I want dark brown and black horses in my herd (and want to mix them - I hate it when the browns don't get sooty). Most went in the show barn after speying, others went to auction - I now have nearly 400 less mares and 50 less stallions. I now need to stop buying other people's horses to replace them - that's really hard :P
PS I still have way too many mares to cope with, but at least it's only 800 now instead of over 1000!
  • Actually my A culling has worked but I have just done a search on my S gene - still 12 pages worth of mares - oh dear guess I wasn't that strict :))
  • Last season i was in one of those moods too and ran all my red and blue papered "keeper" black liver fillies through SBA. I lost most of them obviously. I'm still kicking myself since it wasn't really necessary to refine my breeders that aggressively. I didn't need the stall space and my show bonus is more than sufficient. It will come back to bite me in October when I only have like twelve new 4 year olds to breed lol. I decided when the mood strikes again I will just remember the pain and walk away. If the idea persists for more than a few days then I know I'm ready to commit and I'll be less likely to regret.
BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

  • I'll go the exact opposite way of the others! DOOOO IIIIIIITTT! You'll always need more show ponies, and it is VERY rare that a breeding horse can not be replaced :D

  • I always run SBA on my foalsthe minute they're born. It makes it hard to narrow things down further, since they're all pretty decent. :))

  • I will try again with my S lot - they are good breeders just not for me. I also want to get remove w20 from the herd as well - I wonder if I'll have any mares left after that :)
  • I'm thinking about doing a mass cull and start being more serious about lines instead of breeding for pretties. Keep some straws and sell what I'm not using! It's a shame to see them sit. Then geld/a pay all subpar that can be replaced
