    May I please get 6 straws for Insane in the Membrane please. I own the gene. Thank you
  • @HeavenlyHooves
    Sure thing! 4k times 6 is normally 24k. I'll send them for 20k. :) Good?

    I calculated and did it where there wasn't a random hb spent/recieved. So, it was 4k four times, 3,999 once, 1hb once. Exactly 20k. Hope that works.

  • I'd like a straw from your chinchilla male, please.

  • **Learning purposes** I just asked on the genetics forum but since you have the perfect example to my question here, how do you know your dark chestnut, Ima Fooled Fool, is a liver? I know (now since I looked at your studs) that they can possibly say “liver chestnut”, but what about the ones that dont?
  • Unfortunately, I was wrong. Just learned the correct information today. Please forgive me anyone reading this.

    @RocknSStables
    Unless the color specifically states "Liver Chestnut" a horse isn't. Any horse (i think) is capable of carrying DP, whether it be Het or Hom. I know bays, chestnuts, buckskins, etc are. Basically, Het DP makes a horse, say bay or chestnut, a little darker than it normally would be. While Hom DP makes them very dark, and makes Chestnuts turn Liver. That is all I know, but maybe someone, like @LallyHop could help more?

  • @RocknSStables @SpryOfJune Ima Fooled Fool does have the color name “liver chestnut”. He is het DP.

    Rockn, the thing you’re seeing that says “dark chestnut” is the herd helper tattoo. That means someone used a herd helper called “dark chestnut” (it’s a rank one herd helper) to make him. Now, because any foundation can be created with DP, those dark chestnuts have a chance to be created with DP. Chestnut is one of the easiest ways to tell if there’s DP, because if you have two sooty and one DP it will say “liver chestnut” in the color name instead of “chestnut”. The other easy one is “chocolate palomino”.

    For a horse to be liver, it requires a minimum of three darkening genes (sooty or dp) with all four being colloquially called a “black liver” because even though the color name says “liver chestnut”, if the horse is hom sooty and hom dp they will look practically black. Freaky fridays are a good example of this.

    For a regular brown liver like Fool, it’s either hom sooty and het dp, or het sooty and hom dp.

    On any other color besides chestnut/palomino, you’re not going to see that color name change - it just comes down to differences in shade. Again, DP is a darkening gene, so the horse that has it will look as if they have one (or maybe two) more copies of sooty than they actually do.

    A bay with het sooty and het dp will look more like a hom sooty than a het sooty, and a chetsnut with no sooty and hom dp will look like a hom sooty chestnut, etc.

    You can often find horses that have dp for examples by going to the horse search and looking for tattoo name “dp”. It won’t get you every horse in the game, but a lot of people do try to tattoo horses they know or suspect are dp, and it can give you a solid idea of whether a horse you have has dp or not by finding ones with matching genetics, or you can use it to figure out what dp might look like on x colors or x horse.

    Hope that answered your questions. If not, feel free to keep asking :D

    God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
    The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
    And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
