Breeding with KP
-
Hey guys,
I've now got a few even, established breeding liver foals from that carry homozygous DP (some het.) from this breeding season..
However, I would love to add a new element to my lines to begin in the next breeding season - purely for my own satisfaction and personal challenge.
How would I be able to introduce Kit Promotor into my breeding? Do I need to buy the gene myself (am happy to do), or am I able to join a breeders club to be able to obtain some straws/eggs from players who already breed with this?
I do have an egg from a mare (G6 Gold* Hom Pearl/Satin) who I think would be interesting to pair her with a hom KP stallion!
I am just experimenting, so any foals that don't PT/test/paper to standards will be snipped then sold...but any that do will be retained by myself and not sold/up for stud for the public.
Hopefully someone can help me out!
Thanks, Aztec.AztecArabians

You would find a few stallions that meet your requirements, and start out by breeding your non-kp horses to the KP horses, then interbreeding them. Say you have a couple 2g liver mares you want to use in a KP line. You look for a 2g KP(homozygous is best) carrier, and breed some of them to him. Find another KP stallion, breed some other mares to THAT stallion. Then breed the offspring when they are of age, and you should be started on a KP line.
Or, you can purchase a couple foundations and purchase GMTs(10 makes homozygous kp), and start your own KP line. -
Going off of what kassierae said, you also need to have two kit genes ie tobiano, roan, W2, W20, etc. Doesn't matter which two they have but watch out for mutation loads. If you're going to GMT a foundation for KP it's helpful to find one that already has the two genes present otherwise you will also have to GMT those genes on them. For example, this mare
BH Ice Cream Sundae
Is a perfect foundation mare that already has both genes so I would consider her a good candidate.
However, if you have a horse that you love and want to put KP on you would just have to make sure you buy enough tokens to add them. Like this lady.

It only needs two kit genes to show up, but they can still be homozygous kp without both kit genes. You just wouldn't know!

Thank you so much @kassierae and @Coeur... I don't have the GMT tokens or money right now to buy them and put them on my own stallion; do you think there might be someone who would be willing to send me a service/straw for a foundation stallion with hom KP? I have a palomino tobiano Perfect Foundation mare I just created..
Am I being too wishful? I will pay in any way that I can!! :-SS

Hi Aztec!
I'd be willing to sell you a breeding to Spike. He's hom KP and a spiked eggnog rank special :)

Really?! Gosh that's so sweet of you KniKna!!
How much per straw? I also have two foundation appy mares (but they're not PF...) who i think would be cool to add KP too...they're blue roan. Anything that doesn't improve PT or standard wise will be snipped and kept as a show pony.AztecArabians

I'll PM you :)

If you have a Heterozygous KP foals why would it not qualify for the kit promoters breeder club?
-
If you are still looking, take a peak at my stallions. They aren't papered as I'm not upgraded, and depending on what you're looking for, aren't too exciting. But I would be willing to do it for free (plus costs, if any) because I'd like to see the outcome. Unfortunately all my "cool" ones are mares.

I have two KitKit^w20 that don't express, as well.

@Foxx, in order to qualify for the Kit Promoter breeders club the horse has to be homozygous. Similar to the Pearl or Gulastra Plume breeders club.
