Genotype and Color Name Don't Match
-
I created a mare and color tested her. She is EE AtAt, which from what I understand is brown. Her color name is bay. Is there something I'm missing?

Going from this search, it looks like anything homozygous At but without sooty is so indistinguishable from regular sootiless bay that it's just called bay. :)

There is a brown gene, and a brown phenotype and they are not one in the same. That horse might have the brown gene but doesn't look brown so isn't called brown.

Thank you guys, I thought that there was something that I was missing. To clarify, if she had sooty or some other darkening allele she would be brown?
