Evenly breed vs not
-
Hi there,
Just a quick question about breeding: Before we could papered mares at birth (like stallions), a lot of player would evenly breed to have more chance of intact foals - so the breeding ability would be around the same.. But now that we can paper them right away, does it matter that much at this time? As long the paper of the mare and stallion match(yellow + C, red + B... ), should I expect the same results (even if i have a G2 red mare + G8 B stallion - for example) ? I just want to confirm ^^
Thanks for the awnswers :) -
Alot still prefer to have an evenly bred line but it depends on the person and what they are breeding for :)●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

I think some people are still trying to bred evenly. I am going to start experimenting next season with ignoring breeding evenly and just matching paper levels.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

I'm really trying to do both....match the paper levels AND the generations! It's a lot easier when you have a whole bunch of horses to pick from!
-
I'm trying to stick with even gen and even paper levels, however I do have a couple of A papered gen 2 colts and I'm really struggling to find gen 2 blue papered mares, so I am considering using blue G3 mares, just until I can source some more G2 fillies lol Would be interesting to see if there is any difference in the foals produced.
-
I never bred evenly to get more intact foals, I breed evenly because I like to increase quality each generation. Breeding unevenly often just ends up a haphazard affair and so just doesn't suit suit my breeding goals
-
I think Ammit tried to make a point earlier that it doesn't matter if the horses are the same generation, what matters is if the horses are the same quality. In a few game years there will probably be a shift towards people prioritising even ability rather than even generation.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

You don't have to maximize the number of intact foals you get. As long as you understand why matching papers gets you more intact foals and set your expectations accordingly you can do what ever you want.
I think people are kinda overly obsessed with this to be honest.

So if I understand, as long the papers match, i could hope for an increased quality of the descendants? ^^
-
Seems like it! Have you seen this post by Ammit, looking at what happens when you breed a horse to another that is lower in quality than it? A simple 5% increase in breeding ability shows.

Not at all! Breeding even in no way makes a horse better. That is a huge misunderstanding and something I have tried really hard to get out of people's heads. It gives you more intact foals and that is IT.

I think for a lot of people the amount of intact foals directly relates to quality in their mind, and that's why they want the evenly bred pedigree. Even parents = more intact foals = better quality. Now whether that is true or not, I have no idea. But I do tend to prefer more intact foals, because with testing, only the higher quality foals are passing and therefore it's not such a leap to think that more intact foals = better breeders.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms

The opposite can actually be true. The one intact foal I got from the below test far and away blows every intact foal from the even cross out of the water.

No one can doubt that this filly is better then all the red mares I got from the even barn.

I get it, I'm just pointing out that that may be some people's thinking, that more intact means better quality, which may no necessarily be true, as with your case.
-
I meant more foals on the ground means more chances for, well, just about everything! With my 1500+ horses it is easier for me to find the cross I want. For the mega barns, it's even easier than that. Smaller barns will take a longer time simply because of their lower numbers.
-
Not to mention for those people who can't paper and don't know a good match for their horses, breeding even gives a slight chance that those horses may be similar in quality. I've started to comp test, so kinda know the paper level for two of my bred horses, but the others? No idea lol. The 2G ones are probably not blue though...Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. The simple fact is that breeding even just get's you more foals not better quality. Plain and simple.
