spayed Gen 3 blue papered mares? I'm confused...
-
I have a question about the strict breeding advice. I have a few Gen 3 mares that papered blue (higher than their dams AND sires) but were spayed via the strict advice. I guess my question is why? Here's an example: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=768131

Just a shot in the dark, but maybe due to consistency? It looks like mom is inconsistent. They might pass regular breeding advice?

I'm confused about the whole consistency thing as well. I use strict breeding advice but I also have horses that are inconsistent that pass the strict breeding advice. I thought that only was showing consistency? Or is it breeding and showing consistency?

Well, not sure about this but: Consistency is scored in the same test that PT is scored. So, maybe, just like PT, it is not considered relevant towards breeding. If you pay for the GMT to make an inconsistent horse consistent it will change the PT score (up to .5 points) but it won't effect the breeding scores/ratings.
I thought I read somewhere that strict breeding advice took consistency into account, but it never said how much. Maybe it's only a small part/percentage, and the foals other scores were really great, so as a whole the foal passed. I think there are different levels of consistency, so maybe if it is just a little inconsistent it can pass?
I'm just guessing on all this, so take it all at face value!Thanked by 1smswiere -
Consistency is partially inherited, so inconsistent horses are more likely to have inconsistent foals, and the amount of inconsistency may also be greater than with consistent parents. The old consistency test considered a swing of +/-2 and less to be consistent. I would guess that the SBA is spaying/gelding starting at an inconsistency of +/-4 or 5, with the horses that fall between passing intact, but labeled inconsistent. Back before the consistency test (on HJ1) there were some horses with inconsistency of +/-10 or more, and those have pretty much been eliminated by neutering for inconsistency. So even though it is disappointing when a favorite foal gets snipped, remember that the tests are our friends and will lead to much better foals in the future.I was jllewis on the old forum.

Inconsistency definitely plays a part in foals passing mare advice. I've gmt'd a couple of nice ones that papered well to perfect consistency and they then passed all the tests intactThanked by 1smswiere
