So I have to admit to being somewhat addicted to watching April the giraffe. Everytime I go by the computer I have to check in on her. She should give birth today. Anyone else watching April?

A friend at work just had a little boy, he tweeted his updates under #beatthegiraffe! And they did! Of course, about a gazillion other creatures have beaten that stupid giraffe by now! :p

I've been following her for over a month now! I'm starting to think it was a long drawn out April Fools joke. Her name is April after all :P

Just watched a long solid contraction. I don't know how long they push for, but she has a baby in the canal for sure to be pushing like that.

So I went to check her out after I saw Ammits comment and nothing much was happening but I just saw what looked like a long contraction her one hind leg was even held up. Shes pacing a bit and holding her tail up. Definitely uncomfortable. Maybe this is actually it lol

Supposedly early labor can last a couple days :p

Yep. She's in labor, and having strong contractions. Doesn't mean it will be in the next 30 min, doesn't mean it won't be either.
When the hind leg is up she's not contracting. She will brace with both hind legs and squat when she has one.

I dont know, I read that giraffes have quick labors just like lots of prey animals for obvious reasons. The first stage of labor could obviously be a decent amount of time but thats not contractions we can see. At least thats not the case in horses. I would assume it would be the same for most animals.
Who knows though. This is why i dont watch this darn giraffe and I got sucked back into it cause I thought I was gonna catch her calf lol

Prey animals have quick deliveries but can be in labor for days. She is definitely having real visible contractions.
