Foal selection question
-
Just looking for advice, suggestions on how you decide which of your foals that didnt pass SBA you select to keep as possible show horses? Do you set a low limit on the PT? Or do you even keep any altered foals to trial as show horses?
I have a number of beauties that didnt make it through SBA. Some with PTs of 10.7 ...etc..
Is it worth keeping the higher PT foals to trial as show horses? What do you guys do?Champion Appaloosas -
I breed mostly gen 2s right now, cause I'm just starting off. I keep anything consistent with a PT of 9.8 or so or higher. Will do another culling soon as I'm short on space and cut anyone who isn't hacking it as a show pon.

Im the same..this is my first crop of foals since starting the game..most are F2s. So trying to decide how low to go on PT scores to decide which foals to get rid of..uggg..lol..
Thanks so much for the help!Champion Appaloosas -
As a newbie I'm trying to build my current show herd with show horses that have already established points and add to my show bonus the minute I buy them as I don't have the barn space to keep my failed foals. Inconsistent horses aren't always bad showers either! Some of mine tend to jump up the way in shows rather than down.
Also pasture bred spayed foals can make you a profit if you don't do any further testing and sell them via auction :)Thanked by 1WindspunFarms -
All other things being equal I will cull based on PT. I have been known to keep a super pretty, low PT foal to show, but not all that often.Thanked by 1WindspunFarms

If I have the room I keep them all. Every little bit counts, in my opinion.Thanked by 1WindspunFarms

I keep everything. Always. I even go looking for more show ponies that are being sold cheap or auctioned. Wich reminds me... It's been a while. *goes to check the for sales*Thanked by 1WindspunFarms

I keep them all. When I cull I go through the breeding horses as babies but show horses I never do as babies. Show horses are culled after they level off and then I just cut the bottom point earners for each age group depending on how many stalls I need to clear but the more show horses, the bigger the show bonus, the quicker I can afford a new barn to fill with more show horses.Thanked by 1WindspunFarms
