This mare is uneven question
-
I just bred this mare by accident but she passed strict breeding advice but is one generation off should I spay her because of it or would you keep her? I'm really tossed about this mare I just don't like when they are uneven. And witch generation would she go better with A papered gen 3 or A papered gen 4?this is why I don't breed unevenly
-
If you don't like uneven, I'd spay her and be done with it. She'll make a pretty show pony. She's blue papered so an A papered 3rd or 4th gen would probably work but you'll continue to have this issue with any of her intact offspring.
-
Yea I think I'll sell her thank you for the help
-
I think she is a beauty, I have several that are off a generation and I keep them for inhouse breeding when they paper that well. I would be interested in her
-
Yea I'm thinking of selling her but just not sure yet I just love her coat. How much could you pay if you were to buy her?:)
-
how about 25k?
-
I think ill hold on to her but thank you for the offer :)
-
I don't breed uneven's and I get really frustrated when I accidentally do it or accidentally buy an uneven horse with a "G2/3/4 ect" in the name without checking the pedigree so I generally just sell back to game (if I am low on space) or just sell (I take G whatever our the name because it's misleading if it's uneven)Thanked by 1StarfireAcres

Yea I think I'm going to keep her and breed her anyways she papered well and passed all testing
-
I've just done the same thing with this guy, I feel your pain. As a new stable I'm going to keep and possibly breed from him if I need to or if he turns out to be good stock.

I try not to condemn a horse for being uneven. She can't be much worse than her better parent. I usually breed such horses as the generation on the highest parent at first, and sometimes move them up or down based on final quality and her paper.Thanked by 1StarfireAcres

I don't blame you, she is a very pretty girl and papered wellThanked by 1StarfireAcres

Thank you I just really love her and am going to give her a shot I think she deserves it since she papered so well and is beautiful :)

I thought the idea of breeding 'even' generations was more for when we couldn't paper mares straight up. Like a gen 3 mare 'should' approximately be the same quality of a gen 3 stallion therefore giving you the best possible chance for an intact foal. Now since we can paper mares straight up breeding 'even' paper levels was the more important thing to do?Thanked by 1Sunlit

We had a discussion about that somewhere, Gallifrey. I'll look, but I think the consensus was as you mentioned, though some people (like me) try to do both.
-
Everyone breeds for different reasons, being able to paper early doesn't change that I personally like breeding even generations. I like even generation breeding so I can progress through each generation, and try and improve each generation. I wouldn't know where I was at with uneven breeding. If I keep lower quality mares I definitely don't breed them to lower quality stallions, I breed them to my best stallions for that generation. I'll have less intact foals but the ones that stay intact are going to be better quality and I might get an occasional one that I can keep for breeding the next generation
-
Yeah, I've personally never seen the point of purposefully breeding lower quality to lower quality just to keep it even. I mean, I get that it makes more intact foals but I'd rather breed my lower quality Yellow mare to a higher quality C stallion than a lower quality C stallion.
Obviously I'm still talking breeding within generations, which is half about the aesthetics and half about it being easy, like Kintara said. It's just easier for me to figure out that a 3rd gen is about as good as another 3rd gen rather than asking if my 2nd gen A should be bred with a 3rd gen Blue or a second gen Red. That's the same reason I now don't mix my expro/exper lines and my normal create lines on HJ1 - they're basically starting from different generations so mixing them was just gonna make problems.
