Staying with lines...
-
I am really thinking about sticking with my Dancer line and Joeys Dream and breeding Niquel to some mares. I am wondering has anyone ever just stuck with certain lines and gelded and spayed everything else? Is that a bad idea?
-
I would consider seeing if anyone else with similar lines wanted horses from the other lines before you do anything permanent, and I would spay/geld anything you paid real money to get. Since the spaied/gelded show bonus is applied before they reach breeding age I would say just take the horses out of your pasture intact, show them, and put them up for stud/brood to get the most money from them, and then if you want to go back to that line you already have the horses.

With me I have my main line, though it is trying to split in two if I'm not careful. I also have a handful of horses in a kings random line, five in a snowflake line (including two stallions and a daughter of two Hets) 2 het kp, some gypsy type cobs and a handful of Nexus. These are more amusing and I may or may not breed them the beginning of the month, but sometimes I go back to them later in the month if I gat bored. Most of these lines (Nexus, snowflake, and KP) are cases of I had one way or another ended up getting a horse of that gene, and now if I don't keep these horses as breeding stock I will loose access to the gene at all for the most part, and I just really dislike being told I can't, so I make sure I can. The other two lines are just fun, and they are a welcome variation to my stock as long as they don't take too much time or room.

I have my nexus line that I play with. most of mine are het.nexus.

Maybe keep nexus together and mix other lines.Owner Of Bellwether Farm

my nexus line is separate from the others.

I think the best answer I have is, not really.
I'm a bit of a weird player in that I will pretty much welcome a lot of horses into my lines and mix them all about. I have preferences to what I want in my line but if there is a good mare and I have a good stallion, I'm not going to geld/spay them or not cross them if they are from different lines. As long as they match in quality then I will mash them together and see what happens. The only thing I'm careful about is lethal white.
Apart from that, I have a sf line that has some mares which are superior and some which aren't, the ones which aren't will be grafted into my other horses lines as they're the same quality, the superior line will be singled out since they are too high a quality to chuck in. Thankfully I have a boy of a similar level but of the same line so I will probably end up inbreeding, but hey-ho. I'm not too bothered about that, as long as they're the cream of the crop :)#4519Thanked by 1Sunlit -
You're not that wierd. I do the same thing. Quality is my only standard and I love saying "surprise me."
-
It's not that weird, for sure. On HJ2 I do pure quality with no regard for colour, and on HJ1 I have a few lines separated by colour but most are pretty wide open - like, I have a black line and a DP line (and the vague start of an Ice line) but my other two lines are more catch-all than any specific - there's a line for patterns (Kit genes, etc.) and a line for unpatterned horses.
The only thing I really watch for in both servers is lethal white - I've never lost a foal yet and I don't wanna start! -
Ah that's a relief! I've been bumbling through the game and just seeing how it goes. As it happens, some of my favourite horses are from just experimenting!#4519
