Gelding B papered studs 4g
-
I have some A papered 4g boys but am wondering what you all do with your B papered boys. I was thinking about keeping one intact B papered boy for public breeding. My mares aren't exclusively bred to the same stud every season. Should I concentrate on just breeding one stallion to mymares or is it good to mix it up every season?
-
For me, I expect A papers by 3rd gen so if I get a B at 4th gen, its for sure getting the snip regardless of what genes it has.
I've just now gotten to where I have more than 1 quality homebred 4 gen but before that I just used the same stud for half my mares (granted there weren't that many) and bred to outside studs for the rest. I would try to switch up which ones went to my stud for a little variety. Now I like to have a few (3-5) different ones to use for variety. That's across all gens, not just 4th. -
Geld or auction, I would definatly expect A by then.Owner Of Bellwether Farm

I'm now starting to expect A and blue papered horse in my foals starting at 2g (Mostly to try to get control of overpopulation issue) I personally wouldn't use a b paper 4g stallion in even lines, might breed him to a 2g, but I tend to be more lenient with that with mares instead of stations.

I also expect A by 3rd gen, 2nd gen if the parents are exper/expro or boosted. Anything less than that gets snipped and kept for show ponies or auctioned.

Agreed; I only allow Bs for 2nd gens - anything higher would get snipped for me personally. If you have other studs you can use instead I'd personally use them. You can always find stallions up for public breeding to use with some of your mares if you want to get some variety.
